Hi Guys,

The Gonzo nose sure seems to be a problem, I have every faith that MR will get it right.

Heres just an idea, Im no puppet builder! Several months ago now I was in the back of a friends parents car, as soon as I got in I noticed the back of the head rests on the seats in front of me, the very first thing I thought of was Gonzos nose. The material looked exactly like a textured foam, the way the light reflected on it made it looked like it had the small air bubble holes all over it like a sheet of thin foam, like the stuff used to as amplifier/Speaker covers. It wasnt until I was up close to it, approx 6" that I actually realised it was a fabric, it wasnt holes, but rather raised thread, It really was an amazing fabric and it would look great, also as its fabric a wire or plastic structure could be put inside. The car was a 2006 Citroen C3, I have no idea what the fabric was called or where it could be from, but I just wanted to put it here and maybe someone from MR may pick up on it and be able to research it further!

I know this will pose the issue again of whether this is acceptable, as a replica should be the same, or just LOOK the same?

Im trying to find a picture but not found one yet, will post when I can get one?

I'm so glad Terry has decided on a more classic period to base his Fozzie replica on. I never cared much for the "long face" Fozzie we saw more recently in MFS and AVMMCM.

I take it that Piggy is now made from the same material? How bad would it look if Gonzo's nose was made from the same thing?

No, Miss Piggy and Statler & Waldorf have foam heads that have tiny fibers(flock) glued to the foam so that it looks a bit like Antron Fleece.

If the poser was made from rigid vinyl, would that not render the poser unposable? I would go for the shorter shelf life of the foam personnally.

We arent talking about the whole poser being made of plastic.Just the nose.

What has Animal's bottom lip and eyelids been made from? Surely it should be the same material as Gonzo's nose?

Actually, Animal's eyelids and teeth are foam... on the replica, I'm talking about. And the current proto of Gonzo has foam eyelids and foam inside his mouth.

I still say they should just make it out of the right material, scott foam. Then it will be an authentic replica.

I know that it would only be the nose but, much like anything, alot of the character comes from the face. If you take alook at the range of poses you can achieve from the relatively simple structure of the MR Kermits face it gives you some indication of the sacrifice it would have if Gonzos nose/mouth area was rigid. It is also not a reasonable substitute for what is supposed to be a replica. I, as much if not more than most, want the Gonzo replica but I truly do wish to see a fairly accurate replica of Gonzo and am happy to wait until they fix the issue as opposed to rushing and getting an inferior product...but thats just me.

No, I think I will wait till MR comes up with something that will at least look like the scott foam. I do not want to spend $200 on something that I know I will have to either replace or throw away cause of the nose breaking off his face. I am glad that MR is taking the time to find a solution. I just wished we had some kind of update on him, then we could all know.

I can understand the calls to use scott foam to make it an actual, "real" replica, but on the other hand I do not want to be paying a decent amount of money knowing that I am buying a collectible that has a built-in self-destruct mechanism. This is completely a personal preference, and I can understand the point of view of others who say "If it's not made from the same materials I don't want it" as well, but I want these muppets to keep, not to have to dispose of in 5 - 10 years because they have rotted away. I know scott foam keeps longer if you store it in a dark, airtight space, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having these guys.

I've been on the fence about getting Animal for ages - he's not my favourite character, I have budget and space limitations, etc - and knowing that he's going to end up toothless and without eyelids has finalised that I won't be getting him. If they'd used fleece for the eyelids and plastic teeth I might still be considering it, because it would have looked close enough to perfect to me AND would have last. As I said though, I can understand those who love Animal exactly as he is not wanting something that isn't completely the same.
