Part 22...
The crowd delighted once again when the red velvet curtains of the Muppet Theater opened, Scooter sitting quietly on a sort of set of porch steps. This piece, much like the dungeon set, had been borrowed from Eduardo's private collection for a special musical number. A small antlike creature poked its head out from beneath the steps, it was part of the piece. The orange-skinned resident gofer finally had a moment's peace. Glad to be back at the Muppet Theater, he started singing a song he held close to his heart. He took the spare guitar Clifford had, strumming its humming strings as he sang the familiar tune.
Scooter: "The very day I purchased it,
I christened my guitar.
As my monophonic symphony,
Six string orchestra.
In my room I'd practice late,
They'd leave me alone.
My mother said, "You're nothing yet,
To make the folks write home.""
When he reached the chorus, members of the Electric Mayhem seemed to appear out of nowhere, a glitzy neon-lighted backdrop behind them all.
Scooter: "And so I'd dream a bass will join me,
And fill the bottom in."
Floyd was there behind Scooter's right, playing on his bass guitar.
Scooter: "And maybe now some lead guitar,
So it would not sound so thin."
Janice then emerged, behind Scooter's left, accompanying him on her own lead guitar.
Scooter: "I need some drums to set the beat,
And help me keep in time."
Animal joined the group, beating on a small carry-along pair of bongos, stationed directly behind the gofer.
Scooter: "And way back in the distance,
A horn would sound so fine."
Lips and Zoot then took their places behind Floyd and Janice respectively, tooting their own horns.
Scooter, with the rest of the band playing along: "And we'd all play together,
Like fine musicians should.
And it would sound like music,
And the music would sound good."
The band then disappeared, leaving their lead singer alone...
Scooter: "But in real life I'm stuck with,
That same old formula.
Me and my monophonic symphony..."
Scooter attempted to strum all six strings on his guitar in sequence while singing the last line: "Six string orchestra."
Scooter: "I've been taking guitar lessons,
But my teacher just took leave.
It was something about a break down,
Or needing a reprieve.
I know I found my future,
So I will persevere.
And hold onto my dream of,
Mmaking music to their ears."
The band slowly joined in once again, in the same order as before...
Scooter: "And so I'll dream a bass will join me,
And fill the bottom in.
And maybe now some lead guitar,
So it would not sound so thin.
I need some drums to set the beat,
And help me keep in time.
And way back in the distance,
Some horns would sound so fine."
The band was still present, backing up the plucky assistant to the show's frog-in-chief...
Scooter: "And we'd all play together,
Like fine musicians should.
And it would sound like music,
And the music would sound good."
The rest of the Electric Mayhem left the stage to give the star his big finish for a second time.
Scooter: "But in real life I'm stuck with,
That same old formula.
Me and my monophonic symphony..."
Scooter, strumming all six strings in sequence while singing the last line of his song: "Six string orchestra."
When he finished, the audience roared with applause, cheering him on to take a bow. None were prouder of him than his mom, swooning over her baby boy... And a few females out in the theater's public seemingly smitten with Scooter's performance.
