Journal Entry 1.3.
If my readers wonder how it is that I'm keeping tabs of everything that happens though I may not presently witness said events... Well, remember this is a dream world we're traveling through, and my roommate and I share a certain link that allows us the ability to know the other's thoughts. That's why I knew the Count was resting in the grand hall while I headed up into the playroom. Two voices kept calling out from the darkness, somewhat garbled... At least it sounded like garbled talk buzzing in my ears.
Once in the playroom, the door closed shut behind me... This meant I would have to confront whatever challenge if I wanted to leave. The floor was oddly marked in a pattern of white and black squared tiles bearing absolutely no distinctive markings. There were two small dolls, clad in puffy red suits with white collars bearing a different name. The one with a slight dimple on her cheek was Tweedle-Dee... The other with a slight freckle on her alternate cheek was Tweedle-Dum. The dolls' eyes opened and blinked twice, before opening to a girlishly gleeful stare. They took turns speaking, convincing me of playing their games if I wished to retrieve the key that would open the room's door again. With no choice in the matter, I accepted their wager.
The floor inflated a little bit, giving us a bouncing pad to reach the higher levels of their dollhouse structure. The game was to match the pattern laid out on the floor's tiles by one of the twins, while snatching the pieces of the tiles off of the walls or hitting the correct bell in sequence as the second bounced onto the higher floors. This went on for several rounds, alternating between who took the lead. This crazy game of bounce pinball had to end soon. So instead of following the pattern, I bounced off of the bell marked with the 2 surrounded by two stars, quickly bounced out a star pattern in double-time on the tiled floor, and then jumped back up to grab both dolls before they could return my volley.
Accepting defeat, the twin dolls opened their doll chests before locking themselves inside. When the door opened again, the ghostly form of another friend was revealed and I understood why I kept hearing garbled double-talk. Yes, this explained why everything was in twos here, what with a monster aptly named for such a number. The sparkling magic returned us to the grand hall, where a glowing 2 was now high in the sky as Kermit now had The Two-Headed Monster to keep him company upon the mantle's shelves.
