Facing the Music, Part I
Catherine: I’m so sorry I missed Clifford’s birthday. It’s been so busy. I hope he likes the tie we bought him.
Kermit: (muttering under breath) At least it didn’t have Mickey on it.
Piggy: What was that, sweetie?
Catherine: What say, Kermit?
Fozzie: He said--
Kermit: Um, nevermind, Fozzie. I was just, er, talking to myself.
Fozzie: But I heard you say--
Kermit: (loudly) Hey—what do you know! I heard that we have new dormies! Catherine made some brownies and we should go and say hello and welcome them to the dorm.
Fozzie: (nervously) Are they—are they nice?
Kermit: Of course they’re nice. And you know them, Fozzie. It’s Sal and Johnny, their friend Randall—who I haven’t met, yet--and someone I know from Sesame Street.
Piggy: (muttering) Great. Another one of your weird friends from Sesame Street.
Catherine: Piggy! That wasn’t nice. And what makes you say Kermit’s friends from Sesame Street are weird?
Piggy: Let’s see—Oscar lives in a trash can, has a worm for a pet and enjoys having garbage dumped on his head.
Kermit: Um,--
Piggy: And there’s Cookie Monster, who I believe mugged you the other day when you were carrying cookies down the hall....
Catherine: But, but that was, um, a misunderstanding. Sortof.
Piggy: Uh huh. And I don’t have to explain why Grover, with his fifty-seven secret identities that are not a secret seems odd, I hope?
Fozzie: I like Grover. He’s helpful.
Catherine: Well, um, I guess all kinds of people seem odd to others until they get to know them better.
Piggy: For instance…?
Catherine: Well, Gonzo, for instance. I know at first he seems like a weird little guy who likes to do odd things, but the more you get to know him…um….
Kermit: (muttering) Not helping!
Fozzie: Um what?
Catherine: Um, okay—so Gonzo was not a good choice. But how about, um, Kermit.
Piggy: Kermit?
Kermit: Me?
Fozzie: Our Kermit?
Catherine: (a little defensively now that they are all staring at her) Well, um, yes. Kermit, um, has a frog, a pig and, you know, me for roommates. And he, um, works with a lot of different people and monsters and, um, you know, different sort of people.
Piggy: Different is right.
Kermit: Look—everybody just come on over and say “Hi” to Don and Johnny and Sal and we’ll meet Randall, okay? How long could it take?
Fozzie: Will they serve cannolis?
Piggy: (tempted) Well….
Catherine: Good! Come on, guys! It’s the neighborly thing to do. Shake a leg, now.
Piggy: (sniffing) As if!
