My eye surgery

Yes--I had lasik. The only word I have for it is surreal. WHen I was a teenager--escaping from wearing ugly eye=glasses by wearing uncomfortable contact lens--I dreamed of a fairy godmother who would come and poof my eyesight into perfection. Never happened, and having it done now--some several years later, seems no less magical. Even though glasses are now cuter, lighter and more durable, I really longed to face the world with my own eyes. I've spent the whole day babbling "Look--I can see the writing on the CD cover!" (Then it shifts a little and I can't! LOL!) Here's two scary facts--they told me to drive myself in for my 24-hour follow-up----AND I DID! I kept saying "Oh my goodness--I can see the roadsigns without my glasses!" Second scary fact--no makeup for two weeks. Be glad you're my cyber-buds! (THey told me I cuold fudge and wear a little lipstick tomorrow so I don't scare my students!) And even though I tend toward a more natural look, I wish I'd plucked my eyebrows more diligently before going in! You can cheat a little when you wear glasses!

The first day after surgery, you feel like you're walking through a mist--your vision is very foggy. The morning after, the fog is usually gone (people vary, some take a little longer) and then your vision will fluctuate a bit. Some moments it's perfect, some blurry. Some people are very light-sensitive--I don't seem to be. In two weeks you're supposed to be able to resume a "normal life" (This strikes me as unaccountably funny--normal life, indeed!) with everything in it, but it takes about 3 months to fully heal per Doctor's specs. I've been scheduled for almost three months, but they said "No swimming. No yard work. No sweating." and that's pretty much my whole summer! The whole thing took about 10 minutes for them to do both eyes. They asked me if I wanted to watch someone else have the procedure before I had mine done and I said, "You must be joking! WHo wants to see that!" But one of my best friends is coming in with me for my weekly follow-up and she may have it done if they say she can. Anyway--there's no tellihn who many typos are in this thing because Im doing tihe more by feel than sight, but I'm doing well and hope to be wmong you again soon!

First of all, hardly any typos my dear! Also, I hope to have lasik done. I am old enough, but my vision hasn't slowed down enough yet, for them to figure I could have it done. My eye doctors have told me (I have varying ones, because of insurance or whoevers available. XD) that I'd probably have to wait a whole year. Like if it dosn't change within a whole year, I could get it done.

I so wish to have it done. And not because of the beauty-with-no-glasses either! More like....my glasses break....I'm blind as a bat for the day! (No offense, Ed) And heaven forbid my glasses break, or the lenses fall out when I'm driving!! O_O

So I just can't wait to have lasik done myself!

No offense taken little couz.
*Chuckling lightly.

Yeah... That's pretty much how my sister described the process, it's foggy the day after and then her sight falls into focus by a couple of days after the surgery.

Looking forward to whenever we can all chat together,, here or via PM/E-mail.
Hugs to you Catherine.

Yup, my sister and my dad both had it done, and they love it. I might get it done eventually, but- at least for now- I'm okay with my contact lenses, and I'll occasionally wear my glasses... Funny thing is, no one ever seems to notice anything different when I do...

Looking forward to your return, Ru!

Chapter 29: After the show

“Scooter, please—just one more time and then we’ll do something else!” Sara looked at Scooter with her best imitation of his puppy-dog eyes and he sighed, completely outgunned.
“Okay, Sweetheart,” he said meekly, sitting back down on the colored cube obediently. “Um, do you want me to sing this time?”
“Yes, please,” Sara said distractedly. She had a look of fierce concentration on her face that made Scooter think nostalgically of her determined look during the dance practice that he had witnessed. The thought made him sigh again, but he sang as commanded.
“I can make you mine, taste your lips of wine, any time—night or day-ay-ay…Only trouble is—“
Sara leaned forward gracefully and, with Scooter’s strong arm under her, reclined elegantly into his arms. Scooter almost forget his next line.
“Gee whiz,” Scooter said, his mouth suddenly dry, then recovered himself enough to sing, “I’m dreaming my life away.” On “away,” Sara spun away from him, her long hair streaming behind her. Scooter stopped singing and just stared.
“That was great,” he said dreamily. To his great surprise and delight, Sara spun back and dropped into his lap.
“I got it!” she cried happily, flashing him a brilliant smile. “I got it!”
“You sure do,” Scooter murmured, his arms creeping around her. He knew he should compliment her, tell her she had nailed the choreography for sure, but at that precise moment, he couldn’t have cared less about the choreography. He was tired, he was punchy and keyed up from the performance and the flight and her heavenly proximity, so Scooter didn’t say anything at all. He pulled her into his arms and kissed with all the pent-up enthusiasm he’d been holding in check for what seemed like days. He felt Sara stiffen in surprise, then she relaxed into his embrace and returned his kiss with interest. When they broke apart at last, Scooter looked at her almost apologetically.
“Sorry,” he murmured. “I just couldn’t help myse—Aah!”
Sara had thrown her arms around him with such exuberance that they tumbled off the cube, landing with a thump on the hardwood floor, but nobody even noticed the bump, occupied as they were with kissing the daylights out of each other.
“Sara,” Scooter said dazedly. “Wow, Sara….”
“I told you we’d do something else,” Sara murmured, then reserved all her breath for other pursuits.

“Hey Rowlf—great job tonight. You always come through for us.”
“Aw, shucks,” said Rowlf, pretending to stub his toe in the dirt. “Gotta do something to keep out of trouble.” They laughed companionably.
“Speaking of trouble, did you get a hold of Foo Foo?”
“No, but I’d like to,” Rowlf quipped, flashing Kermit a roguish smile. “No, seriously, though, I did reach her. She’s finishing up a gig with a lady who’s grandkids are visiting, but she said she’d come see the show, and, um, me, sometime next week.” He looked at Kermit a little uncertainly. “Have we got a place for her to stay? Our room is a little scary right now, but she can’t stay with me anyway—set a bad example for the kids, and all. Would Piggy…?”
“Piggy already has a room-mate, thank you,” Kermit said dryly, “but we have an extra bedroom off our living room. It’s next door to Robin’s room, and she’s welcome to it.”
Rowlf grinned. “Thanks—I’ll work on being extra nice to the Missus.”
“Got that one covered, too,” Kermit said smugly, and Rowlf laughed and slapped him on the back.
“Good show, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah—and Mr. Littleton, the casino owner, seemed very pleased. Piggy’s talking to him now. You know, we sold out, right?”
“Yeah, heard that. Oh, and Rizzo said something to me before he left with Gloria Jean about a new act.”
“Um hum,” Kermit said absently. “I told him to—Gloria Jean? Our Gloria Jean?”
“Yeah—go figure.”
They looked at each other and shrugged.
“So anyway,” Rowlf continued. “We’re getting together tomorrow to run through it. Ought to be nice.”
Kermit looked at him sideways. “You want to warn me?”
“Nope.”
“Okaaay.”
They were at the door. Rowlf put his hand on it.
“This was fun,” he said. “We ought to do this more often.”
“Yeah,” Kermit said. “I’ve been thinking the same thing.” He watched Rowlf go and started back on his rounds around backstage.

“What do you mean, Beakie? What sort of plans?” said Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, his voice puzzled. “I thought we were going to get a bite to eat.”
“Me meep mow meeep,” Beaker said significantly, and attempted to straighten his tie in the mirror.
“A date? Really? Well, well, well—how nice.” Bunsen Honeydew watched Beaker struggling with the tie, which had come undone. “Here, Beakie—let me get that for you.” Throwing caution to the wind, Beaker leaned in and let his lab partner grasp both ends of his tie. Carefully, Bunsen Honeydew tied the tie in a perfect Windsor knot. “There now. You look very debonair, Beakie.”
“Moo meep mee mee moop,” Beaker said earnestly.
“Oh no,” said the good doctor. “I’m sure I’d just—“
“Mee meep-meep mooms.”
“Really?” Honeydew said, brightening visibly. “And you’re sure I won’t be in the way?”
Beaker laid a hand on his arm and looked at him for a moment without saying anything. Honeydew smiled and patted Beaker’s hand.
“You run along, Beakie. I’m going to tidy up the sound booth and I’ll see everyone there.”

Kermit probably wouldn’t have looked backstage at all if it hadn’t been for the crash. He was walking past the area where they kept the larger props when he distinctly heard a crash, the sounds of scuffling and what might have been a yelp. For a moment, Kermit wavered, but a fierce sense of protectiveness for his cast and crew made the nervous amphibian steel his resolve and step to the door.
“Whoever’s in there had better come out now!” he commanded, hoping his voice didn’t waver. Although he was glad that Piggy was ensconced somewhere else, a part of him wished she was nearby. It was easy to be brave with Piggy to back him up. He could hear a gasp and some furtive whispering, but no one appeared to be escaping. Probably fans, he was already thinking, sneaking backstage for a closer look at
Kermit’s mouth fell open. The two figures coming toward him were known to him, one of them quite well. His mouth was trying desperately to quirk into a smile but he clamped down on the impulse with grim determination.
“Hey, Boss,” Scooter said sheepishly. Kermit’s personal assistance looked a little rumpled, but he had a firm grip on Sara’s hand. Sara looked mortified, but she didn’t really look sorry. Her grip on Scooter’s arms was just as tight, and though her cheeks were red, her eyes looked at Kermit levelly.
“I, um, heard something,” Kermit said, trying to keep a smile from spreading across his face.
“Oh,” Scooter said, as though something original had just occurred to him. “We were just, um, well….” It was pointless. What they had just been doing was perfectly obvious to anyone with even a single firing hormone. Scooter trailed off and squared his shoulders, determined to brave this out. “We didn’t know anyone was still here.”
“Just me and Piggy, I think. And I’m going now,” Kermit said mildly. “Don’t let me, um, interrupt your plans.” Scooter gave him a look, certain he was being teased. Kermit turned toward the door. Hidden from their view, Kermit smiled, and a wicked thought bloomed in his head. He fished in his pocket for a moment and pulled out a clean handkerchief.
“Oh—here Scooter,” he said, turning and handing over the little white square of cloth. “You’re, um, wearing lipstick.”
“Thanks, Boss,” Scooter mumbled, beginning to smile despite his pique. “You’ve been waiting a long time to use that line, haven’t you?”
“Yep!”
Scooter gave Kermit a hard look, but one that was full of respect and affection. “Isn’t somebody waiting for you somewhere else?”
Kermit laughed then, holding up his hands. “I’m going, I’m going,” he said. “You kids have fun.” He headed toward the sound booth to make sure everything was locked up.

*Pokes head in thread... Huh? New update?
Well, don't mind if I sit down and read... Oh, and good night gals...

*Reading... Hmmm, wonder if my li'l cousin's gone through this already. Oh well...
Loved this update. Have a sneaking suspicion as to who Beaker's date may be, but I won't say to see if I'm fright. And Rowlf and Foo-Foo? Well, mutual acquaintances reconnecting something from the past... That's a nice subplot. But I guess my loyalty/coupling of Rowlf lies with Wanda the Cat. She's become part of the troop you know...

*Chuckles at the handkerchief line... That lad's dun grown up a little hasn't he?
Thanks for the update, almost emboldens me to... You'll have to wait and see, if I decide to that is...

I'm so glad I decided to use half of my lunch break to check out on MC. Oh my gosh!!! Everyone was asking if I was okay, cause I was squealing SO MUCH in here!!!! EEEEEE!!! Me, and Scooter and....wow....I dare say it, fooling around. Such lovely written prose, Ru!! I adore this latest chapter. "Scooter's strong arms" I swear I pratically melted at that line, then everything else....wow. I love it!!! I adore it! I hug it!!

Please, please!! Post more!!!! And knowing how the muppets are, it'll get out really quick that something interesting has happened. Perhaps Scribbler gets ahold of it? I don't know, I'm rambling and using up my lunch break. But I love it that I checked!!!

See ya'll later after 7pm EST!
