Flippersteps in the Sand

Uh, hello, I'm new here. (Shuffles feet awkwardly.) Well that's not entirely true. I just registered on the forum, but actually I've been lurking about for quite some time, mostly in order to read "Flippersteps in the Sand".

You have a lovely, friendly atmosphere here, and I promise I'm not going to spoil it, but as I am somewhat more laconic than you vivacious people, I may sound less cheerful than I actually am. Just a piece of information to save us from misinterpreting each other!

Anyway, first of all I have to admit that I'm not a great admirer of fan fiction in general . However, "Flippersteps in the Sand" really is extraordinary. Its epic scope and Together Again's awe-inspiring knowledge of Muppet history makes it special, and I don't think I'm mistaken if I say that the story's literary qualities and flow of language increase with every new chapter. In short, I've never been this impressed by a piece of fan fiction before. A remarkable work, and I eagerly await future installments of this "Gone With the Wind" of Muppetry!

<Giggles> I guess that realtor made it pretty obvious that I have never moved in my life... I've switched bedrooms once, and that's about it. Anyways, glad you're pretty much enjoying, Ruahnna! He's going to keep getting happier, I promise. And Rowlf will definitely be sticking around, because- well- because I am biased and Rowlf is one of my favorites. And for the reasons you mentioned, of course.

And I wouldn't say that it's the only church in town, I'm sure there's another one somewhere. But then again, I happen to live in a town with... <counts>... Well, I can think of at least six churches in my town off the top of my head... Anyway, I'm sure there's at least one other church in town. (Although I will admit that the religious corner of my brain is not only wondering where the nearest synagogue is, but also whether it's orthodox, conservative, reformed, Hasidic...)

The epic scope is like nothing I've attempted. In a small way, I tried it with a tying-together story for a project myself and a bunch of friends worked on where the cannon was hard to follow, but that was only a 1000 page document, not...centuries? Decades? Millenenia? Of beloved Muppet History.

Also, judgeing by your Username, PianoDog, I get the feeling you must enjoy Rowlf's constant appearences!

Rowlf's constant appearances don't hurt, I can tell you that much . I also happen to be a huge fan of Kermit's; he and Rowlf are my favourite Muppets, so I'm thoroughly enjoying myself here. Another thing that doesn't hurt: all the pleasant responses to my post. I feel welcome already!

Anyway, if you like this one, you should check out Lisa's previous magnum opus entitled Swamp Call. That's where the rest of Kermit's family from the swamp came from.

Well, I've just read the two latest chapters, and I do smile when Rowlf is around, because his characterisation is dead on: I can actually hear Jim's raspy, stoical voice when I read Rowlf's lines.

Am I to understand that there won't be any more story for six weeks?

Is anyone here familiar with Tom Waits? His stage persona and voice are so reminiscent of Rowlf that it's spooky!

Things to help enlighten...
1 Spammers... People who sign up, and then just post gibberish sometimes ununderstandable or sometimes just rude. These people get reported and dealt with by the mods.
2 You'll have to consult the author... But we hope there'll be more story before she leaves on the 18th or the 19th of June. After she's gone, and I'm sure she'll let us know, it'll be pretty much at a stand still for six weeks after till she returns. Course, she might have something to say about this.
And if you do Lisa, I hope what you have to say is the next chapter!
