That's kind of what I was thinking. I think a globe is the most neutral symbol. But what do flags have to do with the Academy Awards?

What does everyone think about the Kodak theater?

The balconies look kind of Muppet Showesque, but don't all of them do that? It's a prettier theater designed for camera interaction. I enjoy how the viewer feels closer to the action rather than at arms length in past Oscars (before last year). The sound is better too. Acoustics seem to have been reduced drastically. I say, cool beans!

The Kodak theater is stunning. I was very leery of it at first, but the capacity is large, and it looks fantastic!

By flying the Swedish flag, I'd be supporting neutrality.

Ahh. Your point is clearer now, and I respect your right to express that.

I just noticed your location. I lived in IL till 5 months ago. The construction really is quite random and arbitrary there, isn't it? I'm glad I don't have to travel the 294 anymore, and I guess the 57 was pretty messed up this past summer too.

Regarding the running time, Jamie: yes, I think there was less extraneous stuff than usual. I thought the show moved along at a good pace. I credit Steve Martin for this. Technically, he shouldn't have anything to do with it. But when he hosted in 2001, it was the shortest ceremony ever. When Whoopi hosted in 2002, it was the LONGEST ever. This year Steve was back, and the show ended on time.

All of this goes to confirm a theory of mine: Whoopi is to blame for everything; Steve Martin makes everything better. This rule applies to Muppet productions as well. :stick_out_tongue: :smirk:

Darn right it is! And it hasn't changed in the 5 months you've been out of IL, either. The four years I've been traveling back and forth between Monmouth and Byron (school and home), it always seemed like some part of 81 or 180 was being worked on. And it's a flat, boring drive the whole way, so the construction just made it worse by making it a slow, flat, boring drive. Even Fozzie'd fall asleep behind the wheel of his Studebaker, I'd imagine.

Jamie, your remark about the Kodak theatre resembling the Muppet theatre gave me an idea (and God help me, I don't think I want it): what kind of awards show would the Muppets host in their own theatre?

i was totally shocked when they had that woman from some movie she won an award for back in 1936. i mean, the date and the era when she made movies! wow, what a heck of a huge gap. i bet that person has some interesting stories to tell..
