Whether or not the eyes ought to be closer, he's gelled in my head, and that's his face.
And thanks, Kevin, I'm glad you like it. I'm happy with it on the whole; looks like a nice finished, polished puppet. Like some professional did it, or something. :)
Because I'm not entirely sedentary, as part of the puppet I just posted photos of yesterday, Git, I'm doing a promotional video thing for FITC, the design festival in Toronto next week. (fitc.ca) Git is your basic pretentious know-it-all designer, who will be interviewing a few of the speakers...
Yeah, I probably should've. But I hadn't defined the targets to that point, yet. :)
(In my defense, the Colbert puppet, once I film the challenge video, will get me some attention, I think, so it won't be a waste of time.)
How did you get those first few jobs? How did you get insanely busy?
Which program did you get funding from? It's something I've also been thinking of, but I've not yet started to look at the specifics.
Incidentally, Andrew, you're going to be speaking at PodCamp NYC? Crazy that there will be...
These are very good points, Gordon, thank you. I've considered going the agent route, but haven't had a whole lot of luck finding one.
Self-promotion is definitely a thing I need to work on. Must be more aggressive with it.
A friend I used to work with was working at the ad agency that did the commercial. When they decided to pitch puppets, the next question was how to build them, and my friend thought of dotBoom.
When I say craft puppets I don't mean the look or style of the build, I mean the intent and the use of them. When I say craft puppet I'm talking about something intended to be sold one-off, for personal use. There's nothing at all wrong with that kind of puppet, and I apologize if that's how...
Hey all,
Here's a new puppet I just finished. It's for some promotional stuff for the FITC design festival that's happening near the end of April.
What do you think?

staceyrebecca, are you always with lots of paying work, or more puppetry things to do?
Part of the problem I have is focus. I have (as does everyone) such finite time to do any of these things, especially when it's not my day job, that if I'm adding something such as classes, or etsy stuff, or...
Another question:
I've considered trying to work out some live shows, along with doing some puppet-building/puppeteering classes, and selling things on eBay and Etsy. I wonder, though, if doing something such as that would set the wrong tone. I want to be able to do this full-time, but what I...
Hey all,
I was hoping to get some advice from you. I seem to be able to get individual puppet-making gigs easily enough (though not of the price and frequency to sustain myself, yet, unfortunately), but I'm having a **** of a time getting anything video-related. I got the commercial thing last...
You're not subconsciously singing, as you're actively singing. But you're not as focused on your ability to sing, because you're worried about the puppet's performance as a whole.
(Sounds like how people find it hard to draw a human face, especially from photo-reference, but if you turn the...
Thanks!
I recorded them separately, as I perform both characters myself. I recorded the audio, then played it on a loop, and lip synched the performances, to make sure the timing was right. That made it easy to synch the video, as well, because I knew that if I synched them up at the very...
It's true! It happened!
You can watch it here: http://www.askpalpatine.com/2008/03/14/ask-palpatine-10-the-colbert-report-interview/
And if you're a digg user, and want to help promote it, you can do that by digging this: http://digg.com/comedy/Stephen_Colbert_Interviews_Emperor_Palpatine

Thanks, guys! I just put a post up over at colbertnation (I only recently signed up, and there's a weird anti-spam thing that made me wait a couple days), about the puppet, which is here:

Thanks!
Thanks Betty,
I didn't make it, I got it via a family member who saw it at a liquidation store. I've had it for a few months, but only recently realized that I could put it to good use. :)
