I've e-mailed one of the producers already, to let them now, and to warn them about what's coming next. :)
Thanks re comments about a step up: I'm crazy-excited about it.
Thanks everybody! I keep staring at the puppet, and smiling. It's a pretty big step up in my construction abilities, I think.
The hands will be controlled via rods: I have a hand-rod with a length of armature wire on the end, so I can wrap it around the wrist at the angle I need, pose it a...
I finished the puppet. Finally. And it's the best puppet I've built so far; I'm busting with pride. REALLY happy with how it came out.

staceyrebecca: sure. :)
blink: thanks! I might do sketches ahead of time to get the general flow, and do those by hand, but typically I do a proper design in Photoshop, using my Wacom tablet. The tablet is super nice to use. :)
I am going for more of a thickly-built character, yes. Not only is she full of pseudoscientific, ill-defined beliefs, she's large, and loud about it. Hopefully in the design you get the sense that she's also very happy: she's quite comfortable with her worldview, and thinks it's pretty great.

Hey all,
I'm working on a pitch for a show I'm trying to get going, and as part of it I'm going the extra mile and throwing some designs in to show the flavor I'm going for. Here are the first two I've done:

What do you think?
Why wouldn't you be as good? Someone mentioned the Beatles earlier, and they, along with Henson, Elvis, and a bunch of others, have been elevated to this position where people think there will never be anyone better. That's silly. People get better over time; successive generations learn from...
Henson didn't become popular because of the visual style of the puppets; they evolved over time, and if you were to compare his early work to his later work, you'd find little resemblance. What made Henson popular was his storytelling abilities, and his creativity. That's the thing that set him...
Hey all,
I'm looking to make some high-quality hair for my Colbert and Jobs puppets. Do any of you know of any places where a person might buy clumps of fake hair to create by hand? I've used Wigs in the past, or fun fur, but I'd like to cry something that will look more detailed.
Thanks,
Brian

Thanks!
I considered his answer being along the lines of "I'm the Dark Lord of the Sith: I don't need a nuclear weapon" or "Have you seen the kinds of stuff we make around here? Have you seen the death star? A nuclear weapon is a smaller weapon than we're willing to make," but I liked where I...
Hey all,
I just put out episode 4 of Ask Palpatine. This one features better audio -- I got a new wireless mic, though I'm still getting the hang of it -- and better visuals -- I finally figured out how to properly light my bluescreen. It's called "Thermite Lollipops," and it's here, should you...
I started building puppets for my show, dotBoom. Since then, I've made some for clients, and for other shows, and am trying to get a studio up and running.
I don't really make any of my puppets for fun, per se, in that I don't just create one to have an extra one around. I have lots of ideas...
