I've already been in contact with a producer, and I've just sent an e-mail to their booker. I'm trying this extra stuff to get more attention for it, so they can't ignore me. :)
Hey all,
Someone sent me a great suggestion to try to get people to picket the Colbert Report filming, in order to get attention for the Stephen Colbert Puppet Challenge. I think it's a pretty neat idea, and the person who suggested it to me suggested I could get puppeteers interested, so I'm...
I agree that it's only a good thing. How can anything that's getting people watching puppetry, and interested in it, be bad for puppetry? Just because it's not *exactly* the same kind of puppetry as something else doesn't mean anything negative.
I don't see how it'll affect puppetry very much. It's got a nice, easy to use 3d modeller, but there are a whole host of 3D apps that you can get -- many with free educational versions -- to accomplish the same thing, which would give you much more freedom.
Are you thinking that you'd use the...
I'm in the process of building an extensible, modular system for setpieces, which will hopefully allow me to hang the different sets on them, letting me get a bigger looking set out of a smallish area. I will be using some wood on which sets will be painted, and such.
As for the audio, I have a...
Also, if he goes for it, and I get their attention, I have ideas of things to do with the puppet, on the Report, that could be pretty awesome. So I'm prepared for any eventuality. :)
Thanks, everybody!
dmoss: No, I'm not worried. I certainly had to use it, for the challenge to make any sense, and I'd already warned the Comedy Central people, so if they wanted to stop me, they had ample opportunity (and their legal department responds FAST -- when someone asked if I could...
Hey all,
I've finished my crazy pie-in-the-sky video using the Colbert puppet I made. Now I've but to sit back and wait for Comedy Central to call ... :)

Hey all,
Since I'm nearly to the halfway point of designing the puppets for my outrageously overly-ambitious demo reel project (which will take a year and serve as something of a Master's course for me), I thought I'd share the sketches I've done of the first 19 puppets. Only 23 more to go...
I don't know if it needs to be said, but it isn't meant as any kind of reference to the author. The design is for a Wolfman, and Marv is an every-man kind of name. I can't get into the specifics of the pitch, unfortunately, but one of the other characters is named "Gary Frankenstein." Just to...
Hey all,
Does anybody have any opinion of this book?
http://www.monstermakers.com/product/the-monster-makers-mask-makers-handbook-pdf.html
It looks cool, but I'm wondering if it would be applicable to latex puppet making, or just to mask making. I assume they're not substantially different, of...
Hey all,
In my continuing attempts to make Hoggworks into a real studio, I am coming up against a need of a business plan. Now, I have lots of thoughts on the setup of the business, with the focus of getting advertising/tv/film clients, and producing our own shows in house, for distribution...
Hey all,
I built the Gideon puppet for the FITC design festival in Toronto, which I blathered on about, and I got to use him! The festival was at the beginning of this week, and so I've begun the process of uploading some of the 11 video segments that were recorded. They'll be put up on the...
It's funny, at the recent FITC festival, where I had my puppet Gideon doing interviews, at one point we went out on the floor grabbing random people to talk to, and we freaked a bunch of people out. Some people got seriously scared.
I wonder if it has to do with the fact that a puppet, if...
Yeah, it occurs to me that they're a little short. The riser idea is one I'd had, though I suppose since I'll be the tallest performer, I'll have to do a little more ducking down than I otherwise might.
Also, since I'm going to be clamping things to the framework, I *might* be able to get by...
