Yes, Louise would have been excellent, sadly the adverts for auditions specified a playing age up to late 30's (if I remember correctly) and Louise is a tad older than this now.
Sadly I'm not overly surprised. Especially in the UK casting actors and training them to manipulate (or rather to jiggle, sometimes competently) is common place. The last two puppet productions I auditioned for didn't have any puppets at the interview!
For those of you in and around London, this coming Sunday (Sunday 14th May) sees the 31st Annual Covent Garden May Fayre, Punch and Puppet Festival, which takes place in the garden of St Paul's Church, Bedford Street, Covent Garden.
It is a celebration of puppetry, with a parade, church...
Interesting articles about the show can be found in today's (6th May 06) Telegraph magazine, and this month's edition of Theatregoer (available free from the foyers of most West End theatres).
Look out for the mention of Nigel Plaskitt...'the puppeteer supremo'!
Cheers,
James
Just to say there are two original Spitting Image puppets on display at the moment (till 3rd September '06) at the Museum of London, as well as some of the original designs for the programme.
Also on display are the museum's full set of Punch and Judy figures (which haven't been displayed...

It really was an amazing day, and Steve was so kind to us. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing at times. One of the more amusing moments was watching Steve do an interview for Capital radio on a mobile phone as Kermit but without the puppet.
And for reference the puppet wrangler/rigger...
Hi Warrick
Do you mean the studios for CITV thing? I'm not sure, but if anyone knows would be interested in going along. The studios I was referring to are the This Morning ones, which are on the South Bank, near the National. Let me know if you're going tomorrow, and where it is and maybe I'll...
I missed it, sadly. Had I known in advance would have gone down and tried to meet him at the studio on his way out (down on the South Bank). Maybe will go down to the Embankment on Sunday though.
Yes Kermit did a couple of links and an interview or two backstage. The interviews were good, but the scripted links with Ruby Wax, sadly, were pretty dire. Not a highpoint in Mr Whitmire's career. However there were a number of nice photos taken after the event of Steve, Kermit and Ozzie...
I've found the best live hand effect can be achieved with a three part pattern. The front of the hand, the back of the hand and the thumb. Have a look at a pair of gloves, and you'll see they are often made in this way. If you look at your own hand you'll see that the thumb sticks out, away from...
Without wanting to sound rude aged 15 isn't your puppetry still more of a hobby than a full time employment?! I'm not sure what the education requirements are in Aus. so they may be different to ours.
Best,
James
Appologies in advance, I'm in a pedantic mood this evening!
In the UK there is an annual publication 'The Puppet Master', and there used to be Animations (look up back issues in the Journals sections of larger libraries). CineFX also occasionally carries puppet material.
I, for one, will be there, as no doubt will you Emma! Miss Andrews is a fun role that I'm sure Louise will enjoy, especially belting it out in a vocal battle with Mary Poppins herself!
