    Giant Puppet for Ionesco's Rhinoceros

We built a giant (Chinese-style) Dragon awhile ago. It got stolen but we're rebuilding it right now. There's a pic of the old one online at http://www.omlemedia.com/puppetshop/dragons.htm

    Where do I start?

There are also some good patterns available that - while not perfect - will get you off on the right foot. One basic free pattern is available here. I'd recommend ignoring the instructions about the weird paperclip/button thing on the hand though. A very similar "starter" pattern can also be...

    Still looks like foam.....

Yeah, it's quite the investment. I'm not sure what brands of product the Muppet workshop uses (maybe ToastCrumbs can tell?) but it's essentially done with either the same equipment or something very similar. Like most processes, the more talent & money you have the slicker the end product...

    Giant Puppet for Ionesco's Rhinoceros

My shop has done alot of these giant puppets - the process is a little to involved to describe here but I would suggest taking a look at The Puppeteer's Co-Operative Homepage - it's the most comprehensive "how to" I've found on the net. There is also a great book on Giant Puppets called "Big...

Always the charmer, ain't `ya moose boy? :p

    Fur Fabric Question

Fake fur generally can't be dyed. It's usually made from synthetic fibers which won't take dye (only natural fibers like cotton can be dyed). Some sort of industrial dyes will work but it's not a process you can do at home. I am sure there are exceptions to this, but that's generally how it...

    Fleece Fleece Fleece...spare me....

Nothing yet, it's sitting on the shelf waiting for something special :D

    Fleece Fleece Fleece...spare me....

Yeah but Bork Bork sent us this nifty Swedish fur - what have YOU done for us lately, huh??? :p Stupid moose - tricks are for kids (er, Beavers)! :D

    Fleece Fleece Fleece...spare me....

Yes it does! Like anything, you can't expect perfect results the first time - there's a bit of a learning curve with any new material you choose to work with - but it's a great fabric and very forgiving to work with. I resisted using Antron for a long time, but a couple years ago a German...

    Full-body costume puppets

Yup, we've made quite a few!

See? I told you they were great!

    Here Comes Puppets Who Kill

LOL, that wolf makes me laugh sometimes. :p

    whats antron fleece?

We got our order a couple weeks AFTER we were expecting it and it caused huge problems so I was none too impressed. That being said, my experience isn't necessarily everyone's experience as your post illustrates. The two best suppliers in my humble opinion are as follows: By the roll...

    whats antron fleece?

Well, uh....have you seen Bert or Ernie? Kermit? They are all made with antron. It comes in white, it's kind of fuzzy and can be dyed to any colour you want.

    I'm @ it again

Light wood (balsa or the kind of wood shapes you buy in a craft store) actually works surprisingly well....but it's heavy than plastic!

    I've made some puppets...

That Dragon is Tres cool. Good work!!!

    whats antron fleece?

Our shop sometimes buys from Puppetstuff in New York but I do not recommend them because they are extremely expensive & often the shipping takes a long time (though the owner is a nice guy). The best source is Georgia Stage - they carry both the 12oz. and 14 oz weights (the heavier the weight...

    Here Comes Puppets Who Kill

Yeah, the article kind of overplayed the Jerry Juhl connection (I just posted it, I didn't write it!). Actually, if you like the show you should join the mailing list - we did and we got in on a special offer where they sent us free posters from the show for the office. Pretty spiffy, eh?

More Muppet Show DVDs in stores Mar. 4

"Super Bit" DVDs are exclusive to Columbia Tri-Star (for now) and contain higher resolution images than most DVDs and higher quality dolby 5.1 sound. Unfortunately, the advanced bitrate of the disc's audio and video fill up most the DVD and the majority of them have no extra features because of...
