How much does it cost to have someone actually make you a puppet?

Try Monster Puppets - they sell alot of "Cookie Monster-like" puppets. I'd search on ebay under "Monster Puppet" though since they auction alot of them off there and you might be able to get a deal. Another company I really like is Diablo Puppets in Montreal Quebec. They sell alot of...

    Cal State Northridge

I've heard of this program, but don't really know much about it. On the east coast there is also a degree program offered at the University of CT. Many American puppeteers I have met over the years also came out of the Dell Arte School (I probably spelled that wrong) which is on the West Coast...

    Sources for Muppet fleece

We have bought from Puppetstuff, unfortunately they are one of the more expensive suppliers though. The cheapeast is actually Hampshire Textile Sales (you can find them through the Puppetry Home Page) but I think you have to order large quantities. For small amounts I'd definately go with...

    Don't Ask Me Why But..................

Actually, I think he got Read-A-Long, Fraggle and Groundling Marsh, but there's also (in no particular order): - Kitty Cats - Piff, Pauf, Poof! - Professor Iris - Little Star - St. Bear's Doll Hospital - Blizzard Island (created by frequent MC poster Terry Angus!) - Cailou (sp?) -...

    Successful Muppet recreations

On the subject of foam latex, here's a link to a new article that Rose Sage over at The Puppetry Homepage just posted a few days ago that serves as a very good introduction to foam latex. The article is by Tom McLaughlin who has worked for Henson and various other companies for the past...

    Contact cement

One important thing to remember about contact cement is you must use it in a well-ventilated area and wear a respirator mask when working with it as the fumes are very toxic and can make you ill. You should also wear thin latex gloves gloves if possible because it is very unhealthy to get the...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Miss Piggy's head is cast in a mold using foam latex (or "hot foam"). I have heard they use a foam injection process to make her head but I am not sure about this. Once her head is cast in foam latex it is flocked so that she has a fuzzy, fleecey look like all the other Muppets. They go...

    Eyes...ping pongs are too small....

No, the mouth plate is still glued to the foam "skull" of the puppet, but you can cut out a liner (like black felt) the same size as the mouthplate which can be then sewn to the rest of the fabric used to cover the puppet's head. Once all the fabric to cover the mouthplate and the foam skull are...

    Eyes...ping pongs are too small....

That's pretty good Bork Bork - I think you have all the basics down. My only suggestion would be to consider sewing the fabric "skin" for the head and the mouth together first, then turning them inside out so you can glue the mouth lining down to the mouth plate. You'll find you get much better...

    Eyes...ping pongs are too small....

re: Hobbits Find Other Uses For Ping Pong Balls On the subject of ping pong balls, I was just reading that most of the domes on buildings you see in the "Lord of the Rings" movies are actually painted ping pong balls. Apparently, WETA workshop (who built the minatures for "Lord of the Rings")...

    Puppets in McDonalds commercial

I may be wrong, but I believe most of them were either antron fleece or moulded foam that was flocked. I've heard that Pat Brymer Creations made them, but I am not sure if that is correct. I hope this helps!

    Eyes...ping pongs are too small....

Re: Buck, You should be able to find them in any fishing supply store - they are usually half red / half white and can be sanded and painted quite successfully. Wal-Mart carries them as well I believe. They come in a wide variety of sizes. I don't suggest styrofoam balls because of their...

    Eyes...ping pongs are too small....

I believe a lot of the Fraggle eyes were made from fishing floats, which we use pretty extensively with our puppets.

Your Thoughts: It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas

I don't know if the Creature Shop did the work or not, but the digital rod removal is actually old news and has been used on other Muppet projects before and extensively on Creature Shop jobs. Sometimes they even remove entire puppeteers from a scene!

Your Thoughts: It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas

I'm with Frogboy and the others who loved the movie - it was great. I know not everyone is happy with some of the directions the Muppets have gone in, but this really was a great effort and one of first movies in a while my whole family could watch together and enjoy equally in a long time...

Re: sex and violence That was the point of the joke! Sam is a bald eagle, so he is bald but he is trying to grow more hair. I thought that was hilarious!

    Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie

At last, the Muppets have come back to network TV! :) I thought this was a brilliant movie and a very, very big step in the right direction. Eric Jacobson was great as Piggy (though I still miss Frank Oz as Fozzie) and I loved the little touches - Bean carrying out Piggy's luggage, the use...

    2003 Calendars... ANYONE?!?

I don't think there have been any "new" Muppet calendars since `97 or `98. I have a 2000 one, but it is all old photos from the late 80s & early 90s. I was in a calendar store at a mall today asking and they said they were not aware of any being available this year, however supposedly there is a...
