I think while there was a lot of truth in the review, it was a little hard hard on Henson & Co. That said, I haven't seen the movie, so I'll reserve my judgement until Friday.
Great to see you posting on Muppet Central Ken! :)
I haven't, but I did an audition for VEE Entertainment (the Producers of the show) once. A puppeteer I know is on tour with their "Bear in the Big Blue House Live" show right now if that counts.
FYI, you can find out more about VEE and their auditions (they hold them pretty regularly) at...
That's Buck Beaver, a character I did for an online comedy series we produced 2 1/2 years ago called "The Marshall & Buck Show." As a matter of fact, we're starting preproduction on a new TV show with those same characters in a few weeks.
Yes Virginia, gasket rubber is usually very expensive. :(
One alternative we have used is fun foam (or craft foam) which is sold in most craft supply stores for about $1 a sheet or less. We'll cut a mouth plate out of craft foam, then contact cement a fabric lining on and voila! Instant...
I sympathize with the whole unfortunate situation. Disney as a whole is not known for treating it's employees well. I have never worked for any of it's divisions, but I know people who have and their experiences are more or less consistant with yours.
One thing I would like to point out (bear...
To (hopefully) help answer your questions:
1. We usually use RIT or Tintex dye for foam (RIT is usually better though). Be aware that not all types of foam will take dye well (although most do).
2. A good source for Teddy Bear eyes is Michaels Craft Superstores if you have one in your...
Another useful resource is The Puppetry Homepage. It has many links to puppet building information, patterns and sources for supplies.
A Canadian puppet builder named Marlene Reimer sells a great puppet building pattern. You can email her at puppetsfgs@aol.com .
We have a brief "how-to" on...
I agree that this is too broad & general a question - there bazillions of ways to build puppet heads. What kind of puppet do you what to build? Alot of people explain what they are doing and ask for help with specific problems they are having.
Something else to remember when asking for help...
Re: i saw star wars 18 times
Yeah, the man who (for better or worse) redefined American movies should go hire a "real" writer/director.
Sheesh!
Wanting invisble seams is why many builders eventually go with Antron fleece, but Fozzie's suggestions are very good if you are using regular fleece.
You can also cut patterns so that there is no seam down the middle of the puppet's head (the seams can be at the side instead).
One potential factor NBC might have considered in deciding to air the movie so early is that the 29th is the tail-end of November sweeps. Granted, the big sweeps shows usually air earlier in the month, but I believe an airing on the 29th i still measured by AC Neilson as part of sweeps month...
Ok I'll bite! Oddly enough, my wife was asking this very same question to me tonight! :p
I run a small company that specializes in puppet stuff. We do some TV work, rent puppets & props to people, build puppets (though we want to stop doing that). I'm supposed to actually be puppeteer, but...
Hi all!
You might want to head down to the newsstand and check out this week's copy of Newsweek. The cover story is about the rise in the quality of children's television programming. The article cites "Sesame Street" and the Muppets as well as their influence throughout and there are...
