    A puppet without a mouth

The smaller gasket rubber pieces carried by Home Hardware probably won't be big enough (or strong enough) for a puppet head the size of a volleyball. I would definately go for the thicker rubber at Jacob's Hardware.

    Sculpting Foam

There is an overview of how this type of puppet is created by Snap Dragon Puppets here. Their process is very similar to the one used by the Muppets I believe. Various types of foam can be purchased in liquid form, then cast as descibed here. I don't have much experience with the process...

    Sculpting Foam

The question "does foam rubber last" is a good one, but it really depends on what type of foam you are using. Generally speaking, regular old cheap polyfoam (the stuff you buy at upholstry stores that cushions are made from) can last 10 - 15 years if the puppets are not in regular use and the...

    A puppet without a mouth

I went to check this place out and grab a business card but they were closed. The name of it is Jacob's Hardware and it is located on the north side of Queen St. West just west of Spadina. Their hours are 9 - 5:30 Monday - Friday and 9 - 1 on Saturdays. They sell gasket rubber in sheets cut to...

    A puppet without a mouth

Hey Stryder, Mkelly knows me well LOL, I really would suggest gasket rubber. I've tried various other approaches (including gluing layers of foam, felt and vynl together) but I switched completed to gasket rubber a year ago and haven't gone back. There is a hardware store on Queen West...

Gentlemen (and ladies) start your puppet building!

Voting starts next Wednesday at midnight (one week from now). I'll be posting the pictures at that time. Congrats on the puppet classes (is that what they?). The Hobbit (with Puppets) in Seattle

Not very actually. The Hobbit has been a stage play for many years, almost any theatre company or group is able to do it if they are willing to pay the license fee to the rightsholder (not sure who controls the rights to the play). They probably won't allow a camera in the theatre (most shows...
