Does Pepe's head pivot? I don't think I've seen that. I don't actually know how he is built, but my guess would be a relatively simple mechanism custom built by the Muppet shop. The easiest way to make a Pepe would be to purchase a fish hook remover from Wal-Mart or a fishing supply store and...
Has anyone else heard about this? I didn't listen to the news yesterday so I just heard today on CNN.
Here's the story: http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/10/05/roy.attacked/index.html
That was the actual original Big Bird Kermit Love built (I think Kermit did the original at least). The Cookie and Grover monsters were I think "trunk puppets" that often got dropped in to sketches until they eventually developed permanent personalities during the early days of Sesame Street...
I would suggest making sure that you warm up properly before the show; be sure to stretch your hands/arms/shoulders/back/etc. It's actually normal for your arm/hand/thumb so tense up after a few minutes if you have not developed enough muscle endurance and/or warmed up properly.
I hope that...
I generally don't, but I suppose you could. I usually make all three fingers almost the same - the index and middle fingers are slightly narrower than the third (last) finger, but only so much that it is barely noticable.
Congrats Scraps Flippy! That's awesome!
Hey, I'm going to be at the SF ComicCon next year and plan to take a side trip to Disneyland - if you're working on the show that time next year you'll have to arrange a backstage tour for me! ;)
I think you have to have a very, very good machine to sew shag fur properly...I haven't ever tried on an industrial machine, but I imagine that would do it. I usually just hand-sew shag fur.
First of all you should do a search in the forum under "puppet building" as this question has been asked dozens (not millions) of time before. Another great place to look for links is The Puppetry Homepage. The puppet building section there is fairly comprehensive.
Some other misc. places...
Thanks for posting that site, Torarin - it's great! Born2Roll, while this type of glove method is great, you can also make glove arms by just cutting the same pattern for the hands twice (one side must be reversed). I used to make "live arm" puppets this way (as many people do) and they work...
Puppet Art Theater Co. is holding puppeteer auditions for the South CA portion of its educational elementary school tour. The auditions are being held October 18th and 19th in Long Beach, CA. They are looking for people with live performance experience (with or without puppets). Ad said...
Well, you really just have to experiment until you develop a pattern that works...then lock it away somewhere safe so you'll have it next time! Make sure you pin the pieces of the arms/hands together before you sew them so they will be sewn correctly. It might also be helpful to use a stitch...
Well, you don't want to build up the rest of a 3 piece head so that it is one piece. Truthfully, I've never done it, but I don't think it would work very well. For your 3 piece head I would just suggest patterning the fleece/fur/whatever "skin" for the puppet so that the mouth is open. Not sure...
I actually use pretty much whatever works. I don't have a particular preference for thick or thin material for a puppet mouth. What I use really just depends on the puppet. There really aren't any hard and fast rules, but generally I try to strike a balance between flexibility and strength. I...
You're right.....but you're wrong. Confused?
You make a very good point.....except that hole that is cut in the head isn't Tumbles mouth. It's purpose is to provide an opening through which Tumbles mouth can be later operated. The mouth is actually made separately and later...
OK, I loved it when - in tonight's episode during the "Kerminator" sketch - Kermit is beating the thug senseless and pauses to say "I call this the Rainbow Connection" before he floors the guy with an uppercut. I was in stitches! :)
That was possibly the best Kermit moment EVER.
The Avenue Q crew sure is getting a lot of press these days...nice to see some Muppeteers getting some well-deserved recognition. This is an interview with John Tartaglia, Sesame Street's youngest puppeteer and a member of "Team Elmo." The article briefly discusses his work on Sesame and his...
Just thought I would share this because, heck, who can resist a title like that? It's almost too easy. A puppeteer in the States is putting together a Punch and Judy election show called "Vote For Mr. Punch." To fundraise he's decided to sell T-shirts and other paraphernalia. Check it out -...
Last Call...
Just a reminder to anyone who would like to enter and hasn't yet - the deadline is tomorrow night (Wednesday) at midnight EST. I'll be posting pics and opening voting at midnight sharp.
