People in need of Puppet Builders

Here's some leads on gigs for all the Puppet Builders out there: In need of Bunraku puppets I am in need of several Bunraku puppets for my performances. I would like the body to be in the Bunraku style and the head to be a hand puppet. They would need to be incredible light because I would...

    Editing Your Puppet Videos

Hi all, I know that the subject of how to edit video and what software to use has come up a few times and I wanted to pass along that AVID - pretty much the world leader in professional editing software - has a new FREE product available called AVID Free DV. It's basically a stripped down...

    Emu and Rhea

I would assume you can bleach and dye them but I have never done it. Ostrich aren't necessarily "better" (it depends what you need feathers for and the look you want) but in my opinion they do look better and move better than the emu feathers. Just my opinion though, and I still use emu...

    Pigs in Space Web Comic

You can learn more about it at animateclay.com which is a pretty good site about how stop-motion animation works.

    Looking for actual Muppets

If you want to convert a Beaker plush, John Kennedy has a good method for turning plush toys in to hand puppets in his book "Puppet Mania." You can find it on amazon.com or at most major bookstores right now.

    Emu and Rhea

I've used emu feathers alot, but they are not as good as ostrich feathers. I've also never tried dying them to a light colour.

    Looking for actual Muppets

There are a few fans on here who have made their own Beaker. I don't think they're selling them (and if they are they shouldn't be!!) but there has been a lot of discussion in the Puppetry forum about how to do this, including this thread. Bork Bork made a Beaker awhile ago and had pictures...

    Pigs in Space Web Comic

Neat stuff. I recently posted a thread about another Pig in Space web comic ~ http://forum.muppetcentral.com/showthread.php?t=12679 My only suggestion would be to consider using a digital camera and doing still pictures so that the image quality is better. Are you using a web cam to do it...

Marketing? I hadn't thought that far in advance.

I think there is a psychological price ceiling for mass-market puppets of about $65. If you go over that you're selling to hobbyists or professional puppeteers and there is a limited market - though lots of people do well that way. I found most people either needed really high end puppets...

    Robin Williams talks about Muppets-Disney

It's just a joke. He needed some funny-sounding words. "Muppet" was sure to get a laugh, especially since everyone knows about the deal. I'm sure Robin loves the Muppets - he's done Sesame, right?

Marketing? I hadn't thought that far in advance.

When I had a puppet building shop we occasionally put puppets up on ebay but found we rarely got what they were worth. The ebay market seems geared towards collectible puppets (like Pelhams or puppets from movies & TV shows), puppets by notable builders (like Terry Angus) or cheap Muppet-style...

    The Passion of the Christ

I saw my brother (who's in the process of becoming Catholic) yesterday and he said he was still recovering from seeing it. It takes a lot for a movie to affect him.

    End of Muppet Central?

I'm pretty sure that whether or not a term is in the dictionary doesn't really matter when it comes to trademarks/copyright law. It's the context that the word is used in that matters. Disney could force the removal of all copyrighted images (which does not include photos taken by fans at events...

    Has anyone heard of Hystopolis?

I've heard of them; they are fairly well known in Chicago's theatre scene and they performed at one of the Henson Festivals in NYC a few years ago. I think you can reach their office/admin at (312) 787-7387 who can presumably help you find out more.

    The Passion of the Christ

I think it's an important film and it works well as an evangelical tool but not so well as a movie for the general public, which may have been Mel Gibson's intent. If you're a devout (or even semi-devout) Christian it is a very powerful (albeit violent) film. But it's essentially a realistic...
