TabbyKat,
If you aren't willing to pay for the Project Puppet patterns (and they are well worth the investment) you can ask as many questions as you like here on the board and there will be someone with a useful answer for you.
But simply looking for an end-around to get them for free won't...
Felt has been used for many many many years in Europe to make doll heads and such. Many of the Steiff toys are made very nicely of felt... but it's not the same type of felt that you can buy at most fabric stores. Usually its wool felt... real wool. From a sheep. The stuff we can buy in...
Touchskies,
One quick note: I don't know if they've changed them, but after you've cut out your Project Puppet pattern pieces, be sure to label them by name! I got myself a three-ring binder with clear plastic pocket sleeves to keep the patterns in. I wrote right on the sleeve which pattern...
I wish you all the best with that. Honestly!
Foam latex is a tricksy mistress... I know Hollywood make-up guys personally that spent hundreds of hours learning how to tease, cajole, trick and beg foam latex to behave as they desired. Most of them have volume after volume of hand-written...
Strangely enough, you asked the question that most people try to avoid asking. When most people ask "how do you make a puppet?", they're really asking, "How do you build a Muppet?"... meaning they want the kind of visual results one sees when looking at Henson characters. They can identify that...
I have that concern all the time with my puppets. And when you do puppets for video, you'd best get prepared to be compared to the Muppets... no matter what your puppets look like.
Over the years, the Muppets have explored many many many different materials... not just fleece... to construct...
So far...
The most gratifying thing as a puppeteer to me was opening the new Sesame Street book and reading a quote from Frank Oz where he talked about being so into his performance that he doesn't actually remember doing it afterwards.
I had been noticing that about myself when I perform...
Hey everybody,
Just wanted to make it official... TVTV WebSeason3 officially ends on January 1.
We'll be starting up Web Season 3 as soon as we can!
WS2 (like WS1) will be available on DVD soon thereafter.
We're currently trying to schedule out WS3 as well as a possible Halloween...
He's been playing with ways of bringing DT to a broader audience. He started with some flash animations of the characters, but wasn't totally satisfied with the results. And he'd mention the idea of puppets in conjunction with the project and people would just freak out (in a good way).
So...
Good news!
I had a meeting last week with John Kovalic, creator of the Dork Tower comic series (also creator of the game "Apples to Apples") about rendering his cast of gamer characters as puppets.
Yes.. and there is money involved. Not a ton, but enough to make it worth the gig. I'll be...

And apologies... the Muppet Puppet...
Maybe something like a product called Luan? Its 1/4" thick (6.5 mm) and can be cut on a bandsaw. Its a type of lightweight plywood but it will absolutely remove any flexibility in your palette.
I know David Pannabecker uses Sintra board (pvc sign board)in his demo video. That serves pretty...
I have several things up for auction on eBay right now that might be of interest. I have the Kermit pushbutton telephone (works great!) and the Henson Muppet Puppet Kangaroo.

Jarrod,
Its probably a terminology thing... but "timber" in the US refers mostly to rough-cut logs.
I just want to be sure that's not what you're talking about?
