This smacks of "trying too hard." I think it's pretty apparent that kids are not gonna like what you tell them to like (witness all the parents who detest Barney the dinosaur -- and all the kids who love him). Sometimes it's possible to overthink something...
Besides -- I never knew any girls...
So I am working on my second puppet... I'm wondering, what steps do you fellow puppet-builders take when building puppets? Do you do drawings? Full-color renderings? (I do!) How many tries does it take to get a decent pattern for the foam "skeleton?" What about for the fleece covering? (That...
Hey, thanks for the kind words! I guess I am a super perfectionist. I see a zillion things that I could fix.
The mouth is very wonky. I'm gonna rebuild the guy and fix all that. I built him out of junk foam I had laying around, so unfortunately he is already falling apart internally. C'est la...
Okay guys -- I am baring my soul here and showing some lousy pictures of my first puppet. This one is made out of stuff I had around the house, just to get a feel for making patterns, eyes, that sorta thing. There are some pretty glaring errors I've noticed already (the mouth is pretty wonky --...
Hey, I was just at MGM last week and wanted to note that all the animatronics in the Muppet Vision 3D show were working just like they're supposed to, Swedish Chef's cannon, penguins and everything. Disney is good at maintaining those things (unlike, say, Universal, which has had an armless...
I think Disney has enough of its own "Disney Stuff" they are trying to get back in order without having to worry about the Muppets. Far as I am concerned (and I might catch some flak for this), the Muppets nowadays are kind of like Bugs Bunny without Mel Blanc. Animators and illustrators can...
I am still working on building my first "decent" puppets. It is a real exercise in frustration. I haven't posted any pictures or anything yet out of pure embarassment.
I will say that most of my (as yet unsuccessful) ideas have come from mindless doodles and looking thru picture-books of...
I wanted to say that I never dated at all in high school, but once I left home and bounced around the country for awhile I figured out that self-confidence is absolutely priceless when it comes to talking to girls. When you talk to her, make sure you have convinced yourself that you're a great...
I like this one much, much better than the new Superman movie. That thing had me looking at my watch over and over, and I don't even wear a watch.
Pirates was cool. I loved the over-the-top evil pirate henchmen!
I can't believe nobody mentioned Pinocchio, Disney's greatest achievement. Seeing it as a kid when it was re-released is one of my great childhood memories. The Monstro sequence is burned into my brain. That and Stromboli's scene.
I want to chime in and agree with Phantom. I'm just starting building my 4th puppet. I built 3 others -- a Kermit knock-off, a lion (which isn't finished) and a lousy bird. I'm re-doing the bird using everything I learned from the first 3, and it's looking pretty good so far. I've not purchased...
Hey, I hope this isn't against the rules, but I am reposting your URLs for you.

It's interesting to me how many different ways there are to go about building puppets. I...
I don't think I ever posted in this thread. I'm a fairly new member who is starting a puppeteering business soon, within the next 6 months or so, and I'm hanging around just to see what others are up to and to evgentually pick people's creative brains for comments and critiques. So that's me...
How'd the project turn out? When I was in college and had something like that to do, I usually found that each small aspect got progressively worse and worse, and that I was more willing to live with it the earlier it got...
Yours looks good!
Hey, I did one too -- it's kind of a "generic Muppet" looking thing. Kinda sloppy but what the hey, I'm at work and all I have is a crappy mouse. It's like drawing with a brick.

I skim thru just like Sgt Floyd and zeldazipple. I stop by here every now and again, when I have a chance. I kind of regret that since I'm starting my puppeteering business in a few months and would like to get to know some folks better, but c'est la vie.
Sometimes I can't pass out without the TV going, or reading a stack of lousy old comic books or something. But if I've got insomnia one night, it usually starts a vicious cycle and I end up with it for several days in a row....
