I loved the songs and didn't feel that they (or the rest of the special) were kiddyish. I'm usually the first one to call foul for that. This was Muppets for the whole family. Pepe was permitted to be a little more "adult" for a good balance.
I too wonder where I Believe went in this...
Okay, upon 2nd viewing I give this a solid B. If a DVD comes out with extended scenes that could improve my score to a B+, but I didn't quite think the writing hit A territory. And that's okay with me. It takes a long time to write for the Muppets. The special was better than the average episode...
I saw some Muppety moments tonight.
Upon second viewing I give this special a solid B. There appeared to be an extra added layer missing, but the music, the Muppets and the magic is definitely back. They have created a new likable foundation for all ages that has been lacking in the past. The...
Initial Reactions:
First - I am a happy Muppet fan tonight.
The music and numbers were great. Production values were good. It's great to have that back!
There wasn't much to the story. That's where it's in need of some help. There isn't much that can be done in 45 minutes, but the...
Oh, wow! Now that officially is a bad review.
It does appear again that this self-professed non(or neutral)-fan doesn't understand the Muppets in the first place. He even pans the music - music penned by the same hand that gave us Rainbow Connection and Movin' Right Along! That isn't even...
All of the clips I've seen seem classic and Muppety to this fan of 34 years and nobody I know gives me a problem about my liking them. So it still appears you are planning to dislike it and much of it for external reasons. When Kermit Swamp Years came out I wasn't embarrassed for my self or the...
It seems that there's more to your critique than just the Muppets. It appears you feel that the quality of projects reflects how others feel about you. While I can understand that, there's little that Disney, the writers or performers can do for it - especially considering that you seem to be...
I liked that too.
Again, who is this new guy? Is he just a random blogger or a serious critic? Neither review listed was particularly bad. They both noted room for improvement. I don't know why a person who dislikes Christmas would review a Christmas special - and one with Santa...
This is one bad review, not "reviews" as stated. EW gave it an A-. Not that I trust reviews anyway. As the guy said "the Muppets deserve better", but by way of a quality critic that knows his stuff. Every piece of entertainment is bound to have a few contrarians bent on being disagreeable for...
I doubt if Fozzie is released that it will be anytime soon. We're looking at nearly a year at best. They still haven't located the factory or worked out the kinks in the design translation much less made the many pieces. I hope there will be a payment plan. :o
I liked bits of it, yet wanted more from both the Henson Co related version as well as the Disney version. Both are fairly creepy in parts yet fall short in certain areas of either pacing or playing it safe. Both beat Roberto Benigni's version by leaps and bounds. Still, Disney's telling is the...
I'm a low-pressure artist myself. I don't like the "last minute feeling" and always think it can be avoided. However it appears that in past attempts the Muppets are either just thrown out there and asked to be funny or it goes to this other end of the spectrum where they're over-thinking things...
A little yellow square-cut sponge of joy! :coy:
I still like this special, but I do understand many of the objections. Much of VMX appears to be tinkered with by too many hands. I remember it had plenty of development time and that could have caused some of the awkward moments. The Muppet...
I'm at the toy shop right now stocking Christmas Star Wars items that just came in featuring Yoda with fighting with a candy-cane-saber, Chewy with a Christmas tree in hand, Vader with a Santa hat and more! Not to mention we've had this Yoda Santa snowglobe forever along with ornaments featuring...
This is the same puppet used in the French Muppets TV variety program. The Newsman now has a blinking mechanism. It was awkward at first, but I like it. The addition adds a new (almost creepy) layer to the character that seems to work. Here's an unhelpful still photo of him.
I don't think they're contractually permitted to make very many of these. I remember something being said about that. I could be wrong. These are intended as short-run releases.
Actually, I think this current Muppet special is the right kind of promotion all items Muppet could use. Once the...
:search: 10 - Sherlock Hemlock
Here's a Sesame character that should be brought back. What's more educational than a sleuth discovering new things?
9 - Big Bird
This bird always seems to be MIA when I tune into Sesame Street. What's the deal? He used to be the reluctant figurehead of the show...
The limited short-run nature of MR's product would likely make it too expensive to pay the performers to promote that piece alone. I wonder if some of these companies could bundle their products together in one solid push, or does that water down the promotion? :o
Seeing Fozzie interact with...
You bring up an interesting point. There was much dissatisfaction with that live action, puppetry and CG mixed telling of Pinocchio a full twelve years ago. Henson Co just made the puppets. Francis Ford Coppola originally wanted to create with the Jim Henson Company, but it hit many snags in...
