There was also another one, I believe it was David and Luis, but I could be mistaken. They were each on one side of the split screen, having their own picnic. They kept passing various items- pickles, mustard, etc.- back and forth between them. They were about to dig in to their own picnic...
Actually the green girl Muppet with the red hair who sang "Mah Na Mah Na" also got to appear with the boy in the clip about the number 7, where he sang "Going to St. Ive's". But the purple one went back to Don Sahlin's workbench, got her eyes and hair pulled off, stripped of her dress, and went...
Dang, I slept in this year, and missed the float, but at least I got to see the Super Grover balloon at the end. I do remember Jim talking with Kermit in one parade from the late 80's talking about the debut of the Kermit balloon.
Sissy Spacek was a whopping 27 when she played a high school senior in the movie Carrie. Some people just wear their age very well. Same as Sonia. She's well into her fifties now, but you wouldn't know it.
This one was very brief- ten seconds if that. The Panther comes up to the rock with his black belt and sash.
Narrator: A demonstration by the Pink Panther.
PP carves out the letter K with three chops.
Narrator: Clever! The letter "K" as in the word "KARATE"! Panther takes a bow.
Then the...
Yes, there were a number of them:
the letter M
a fireman
a postman
an astronaut
and it was great to see whoever was drawing trying to follow the kids' instructions and he would inevitably goof up, causing the kids to shout "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!". Then when the narrator would finally try to...
Carroll Spinney explained in his book the reason they "bent" the street and expanded the area between 123 and Hooper's Store was so they can get better camera angles. Plus the original set was a little too cramped.
Yes, there was a Mommy, Daddy, and Junior ball (all with appropriate hats and wigs) and a mailman ball who had a letter for Daddy. Then at the end the Mommy invited them all to have some lemonade. Ain't it groovy?:D
I remember that one. Only the bright yellow can wasn't Chef Boyardee, but Franco-American (maker of Spaghetti-O's!). Very close, though! I only know because I polished off enough of those cans when I was little.:)
If I remember correctly, I think the clip showed a series of people trying- and failing- and trying again. The black kid on the bicycle was just one of them.
There was also a baby reaching for a toy, and when he finally grabs it the kids doing the voice-over cheer for him.
I also remember a...
A Little Bit in the Beginning
Actually, Joe Raposo sang it, and the union of his lyrics and the images on the screen were always fantastic. And this song is just as relevant in 2005 as it was in 1970.
(Scenes of a chick hatching out of an egg, growing to be a rooster)
A little bit in the...
If you want any more proof of Joe Raposo's genius, there it is, right there.
The animation is brilliant, showing things that are big and small, depending on where you are, and so nice, the last shot before the sun sets, of seeing the two kids- one black, one white, walking with arms over each...
James Earl Jones looked a little scary because he had his head shaved for the movie he was starring in, "The Great White Hope" (Warner Bros, 1970). It was really intense the way he stared at the camera and never blinked.
Thanks for remnding me about Pat Paulsen. I remember that clip of him...
Yes, all the little guys had numbers, (3,4,5, and 6) and the big guys had letters (E,L,R, and V)
I love the Frank Oz character who comes charging up
"Okay, okay, it's time for me!"
Jim's character: "What do you have?"
Frank: "Oh, I don't know. I THINK it's an 'E'". That was too funny. :)...
Lady Chatterley's Lover was a book written by D.H. Lawrence and published in 1928. It's been censored or banned in many places because of its sexual
content. But none of these connotations had any bearing on naming the Muppet character Lord Chatterly.
This song "High, Middle, Low" was included on the Sesame Street 2 album that came out way back in 1971 ( the Cookie Monster sticker that came with it is still stuck to the wall in my father's basement). But the record version featured Herbert Birdsfoot, Ernie, and Bert.
The TV version featured...
I thought that bit was great, Bill insisting there were only three kids, and the kids insisting there's four. Then when Bill turns around and finds the 4th kid hiding behind him "AHAAAAAAAAAA!!! GOTCHA!! SO THERE!! FOUR!!" the look on his face was priceless!
Same as his bit with the same...
