Like I said, politics gives me heartburn - which is a pity, 'cause it looks like I'm going to be stuck with this sucker until the bitter end.
But enough of that - let's get back to talking about Richard and Muppets.
Richard: Hear, hear.
On a happier note - FR season three came out today...
Scooter: I see Claudia and her gang are causing trouble again.
Erin: Yes, "Back to the Future," anyone? (looks at messages) They're still fighting on the council...(scribbles notes on notepad)
Nora: I've decided what book I'm going to read - I'm going to read a tidbit from "James and the Giant...
I know - and there have been some new twists and turns today, so this isn't over yet. On the upside, I got an e-mail from my journalism professor this morning, telling me that I did a good job reporting the story. It also congratulated the paper's news staff for staying on top of this craziness...
Beige: Hey, did you see that? Alex just pushed Beaker out of her room!
Storyteller: (snort) And I'd like to know just what Kyle's doing in there.
Erin: He's just bringing her the aloe vera, Storyteller, he's not doing anything illegal.
Scooter: All right - here's our big scene at the ghost...
Ouch - well, here it deals with how student groups will get their funding and a lot of other stuff. And this completely changes the student government here from a three-branch body to a one-branch, which has a lot of people upset.
It's all crazy, like I said. But then again, my screen name is...
Storyteller: And I have some really juicy Fraggle legends that I could do at the banned book reading.
Beige: I could read "Fifty More Jokes from Fraggle Rock," 'cause that used to be banned in the Cave. (sotto voce) But I caught the Cave's Oldest Fraggle reading it once.
Scooter: I'm doing the...
I know, it is - the whole song is so poignant, with everyone having to go their own ways. And to me, Scooter's voice, a gentle tenor, just sounded especially heart-tugging.
And then we have Richard and Scooter leading everyone off in "Just One Person" at Jim's memorial...
On a completely...
Erin: (on phone) Okay, right...fine, then. (gets off phone) Guys, the banned book reading is on for Oct. 1, at noon in front of the Nelson Square train station.
Nora: What are you going to read? I'm not sure what I'm going to read yet.
Erin: I'm doing "Wrinkle in Time;" if anyone else is...
Sure, the Wizard's not exactly the most morally sound character in FR - but you can't help but like him a little bit. Sure, we're kind of biased, seeing as who's playing him down in the trenches, but you know how it is.
I've heard "Mr. Bassman." Great number; it's always cool to see Scooter...
Storyteller: Well, it's not like we didn't warn him when we first moved in...
Nora: But it is kind of sweet, you know...
Storyteller: Just like the way you've been mooning over Scooter.
Scooter: What?
Nora: That's supposed to be a secret!
Storyteller: And then there's Erin's fascination with a...
Hmm, Uncle Deadly being Gertha's brother...now that you mention it, that's actually not too far-fetched. Sure, their senses of humor are a little different - Deadly is fond of swooping dramatics and Gertha just dives right in with a razor-sharp remark - but one could see them as brother and...
Oh, yes - let us not risk the wrath of the dearly departed by making this a cute thread.
I did hear "Trashcan Tango," and it certainly sounds like Richard had fun doing that one. He's up there, playing a gruff, gravel-voiced grouch with a New York accent...but I'll bet he had a bad case of...
(group is having a late dinner in the kitchen)
Scooter: You guys hear that Claudia's been turning herself into a rabbit?
Erin: It's true - and I'll bet it's been a hair (or hare)-raising experience for her roommates.
Nora: They're probably the ones who turned her into a rabbit.
Beige: Wait...
Right, there are no pink slips, no long boring meetings, no backstabbing or anything - this is heaven after all, and all that unpleasant junk gets left behind on Earth. And everyone gets three real, home-cooked meals a day and a nice comfortable bed (or cloud) to sleep in.
Let's see...several...
That's a really nice thought - in heaven, the talented unknowns would be given just as much stage time as those who were famous, and everyone would applaud loudly for them both. And they wouldn't be restrained by budgets or "industry surveys" or anything like that.
Erin: Okay, guys, I sent the forms in - Ed's got them off to the tailor's.
Nora: So what'd everyone go with?
Beige: I went with something sensible and upright. No nonsense, nothing silly.
Storyteller: Oh, what's the matter, Beige, afraid to loosen up a bit?
Beige: This from the Fraggle who...
(outside, gang returns from a morning bike ride - with Erin, Scooter and Nora riding single human- and Muppet-sized bikes, and Storyteller and Beige riding a tandem Fraggle-sized bike)
Nora: It's warm out today.
Erin: I know - I'm ready for falling leaves and dropping temps.
Beige: Or at...
You know - in "Of Muppets and Men," the eight principal TMS Muppeteers were referred to as "the varsity squad." It's kind of fitting - except unlike in regular team sports, the Muppet crew took turns being team captain and coach - sometimes at the same time. Jerry Juhl strikes me as being the...
(thundering noises come through ceiling)
Storyteller: Cake's done...(suddenly looks up at ceiling, and accidentally puts her bare hand on the hot pan) Ow! Oh!
Nora: Storyteller!
Erin: Nora, get the pan from her. Storyteller, get your hand under cold water, pronto. I'm going to go see what's...
Erin: (tapping a few more computer keys and stretching arms over head) Congratulations, Claudia, and welcome to the gleefully insane ranks of senior membership. (pats her own badge, a pair of silver Scooter glasses)
Beige: (perched on table, watching Erin type) How's the story coming along...
