BTW, the reason McDonald's never uses the characters of Mayor McCheese and Officer Big Mac anymore is because they got into a copyright dispute with Sid and Marty Kroft over the characters and lost.
H.R. Pufnstuf was really a very popular show when it was new and in syndication. From what I've read, the reason that there were only 17 episodes was because they ran out of money and couldn't afford to keep it going with the standards that the Krofts wanted. For example, Sid and Marty wanted...
Well, I don't think there was ever a skit where Cookie Monster and Kermit BOTH ate shapes. I remember one where Kermit was talking about feelings and had round faces with happy and sad expressions that Cookie Monster ate. There was another one where Kermit was giving a lecture with a rectangle...
I definitely believe that's Telly at his best. I liked it when he'd make a big deal over minor things, like when Luis and Maria just got married and were trying to decide where to put things. Telly went into panic because they couldn't decide on something and he thought they wouldn't be able...
You have to remember that David was pretty young when he started the show too and could probably have passed for someone in his late teens (at least by television standards). David and Maria pretty much represented the "younger generation" in the beginning.
There was also a street scene where Herbert is with Big Bird at the nest. Big Bird tells a story of the 'AN' family that seems to exasperate Herbert. I believe Herbert made a few street appearances. At that time, "street muppets" and "skit muppets" were pretty much interchangeable.
While I agree that Roscoe Orman is an excellent Gordon and the one that is known by generations today, I can attest to the fact that Matt Robinson also did a superb performance as Gordon and many people who grew up in the 70's still think of him as the definitive Gordon.
Not to take...
Yes, that was one of the early ones where Fat Blue was the antagonist and Grover the victim, later of course, they would change roles. I actually think the earlier ones like this were funnier and more in keeping with Grover's character as the fall guy.
On page 34 of the "Sesame Street Unpaved" book, it says that Caroll Spinney met the actor who played Radar on M.A.S.H. (Gary Burghoff), and decided to name Big Bird's teddy bear in his honor.
Mr. Snuffleupagus is definitely one of the more memorable characters of the show and he has a rich history of being missed by all of the adult humans and then finally seen. They have some cool Mr. Snuffleupagus toys too, like the rare Fisher Price Little Person Snuffy toy from the 70's...
Yes, I do remember Mike. I believe he's also on a Sesame video where Big Bird gets sick and goes to the doctor. I also remember Mike playing the giant in a Jack In The Beanstalk segment with Elmo. It's interesting that in their version, Jack chopped down the beanstalk BEFORE the giant could...
True, Mike, but you do have a pattern of being rude with people on here and other Sesame Street forums. You don't have to respond to every message that you find annoying, you know. You've ruined several pleasant threads already.
You know, the title of this thread actually scared me a little. I thought the powers-that-be might have decided that it was a bad influence for kids to see Big Bird eating only birdseed, so they were going to force him to eat a well balanced diet, just like they did with Cookie Monster. Hey...
