Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
The same can apply to "The Alligator King," when the lyrics mention the fifth son's perfume "smelled like cheap cigars." That segment aired as late as 2006, and the lyric was also included in Episode 3408 when Celina's dance class acted out the segment.
So recently, I watched "The Rhythm and Roots of Arthur" and I actually enjoyed it, especially D.W.'s "I'm Bored" rap number. It helps that she has a decent boy voice actor here, sounding kind of similar to the original Michael Caloz at times! But what also surprised me was seeing a familiar name...
Yeah, those stills are pretty neat. When the Witch disguises herself as a harmless old lady by having Margaret Hamilton appear looking like herself, that reminded me SO MUCH of how "The Paul Lynde Halloween Special" started out, with Margaret playing Paul's housekeeper who takes him to visit her...
Oh yes, Lilly Tomlin's voice is so pleasant to listen to, especially when she sings like that. But even when she voices Ms. Frizzle of "The Magic School Bus" it's fun to hear her voicing the character. ("Take chances! Make mistakes! Get messy!")
This is another one of those "voice of my childhood" deaths that hit me fairly hard, along with June Foray, Jerry Nelson, Robin Williams and Alan Young. They and Caroll will all leave a great legacy...
Tonight I'm going to watch "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" and "A Muppet Family Christmas" in...
Finally got to see their parade-welcoming number, and it was pretty fun! Anyone else notice Don Music making an appearance?
And of course, I was happy to see Julia alongside Herry Monster on the float!
The "Sesame Street" cast and Muppets were NOT the opening number. It was the cast of that Temptations broadway show. At least the "Sesame Street" cast was listed in the opening lineup (while NBC ignores the other floats and balloons, of course!)
Great to see Fozzie's mom again! And that makes another female Muppet that Matt Vogel has performed (he performed Janice at least once before David Rudman became her main performer.) Though of course, it's not that surprising Matt Vogel got the part of Fozzie's mom; he sure has that knack for...
Yup, that's definitely how Margaret Hamilton's voice sounded around that time. Not that much different from "The Paul Lynde Halloween Special" I've often brought up here.
I'm not surprised Eric Jacobson performed Harvey, given how he can nail the Frank Oz voices. He even had the laugh down! And as for Peter Linz as Captain Vegetable, that's not too surprising, given how much he sounded like Jim Henson.
Ha! The taxi driver saying in an Oscar the Grouch-esque voice "Where to, Mac?"
Ooooh, I spotted Captain Vegetable in Hooper's Store!
It was especially great to see Linda again amongst the classic cast members! Even Leela returned as well.
I also enjoyed seeing Herry Monster and Hoots the Owl as...
"Ten bells" was actually filmed in 1972, and replaced "ten little Indians" by Season 4. Though on a similar note, there's that 1975 animated insert about how Native Americans don't "tonto talk" ("all those 'Ughs' and 'Me wantems'"). Though they still used the rather un-PC term "Indian," it's...
Hey, I got credited at the end of Part 5 for providing footage! (Specifically, footage of Episode 4206.)
And I KNEW Vincent Twice was going to make it on the list. I also liked how he pointed out the "Mysterious Theater" title card being directly based off the funeral shot in the actual...
Here's something different, as it's not an actual segment or footage from the show, but a stock sound effect the show used back in the old-school years, and a fitting one for Halloween!
I like how one of the categories was for minor/obscure Muppets.
But I was surprised by how the "Monsterpiece Theater" segment "Little House on the Prairie" had the "green curtain" intro, from what I heard, rather than the "Library" intro it originally had (as it was produced for Season 25.)...
