Chapter 5: The 11th day of a Christmas Wedding

Rolling out of bed, Miss Piggy stretched and yawned. Walking over to her calender she marked off another day. Only 11 days left, she mused. “Only 11 days left?!!” she screeched. Rushing to the phone, Piggy dialed Marty's number. Tapping her heeled slipper, she waited impatiently for an answer.
“Marty?” Hello sweetheart. Moi always loves to hear vouses voice!” Piggy listened as Marty shared pleasantries with her.
“Now darling, I know you didn't call me to spread holiday cheer. What do you need from me?” Way to beat around the bush, Marty, Piggy thought testily.
“Vous is right, moi needs you to get a hold of all my stylists, vous knows: hair, make up, clothes...”
“Just the basics?” Marty asked teasingly. Though his words were meant lovingly, Piggy's eyes started to sting with tears.
“Oh Marty!” she cries into the receiver. “I just don't know what to do! The weddings so close, and I- we, Kermit and I have so much to do!” Piggy poured out her heart to the only person listening, Marty. He listened until her tears died down on the other end. Leaning back in his office chair, Marty listened to his old friend and client. He had known Piggy a long time. How long? Well, Piggy would never admit how long. Marty smiled. That had been one of the things that had attracted Marty's attention to Piggy. She was a diva on hard on the outside, but when you peeled back her harsh shell, you'd find a budding bloom reaching for the sun. Just have to watch out for those darn thorns, he thought.
“Piggy, slow down.” He murmured into the phone. “Your insulting my job as your agent. I mean, what am I? A Rolex or a Vestal?” Piggy giggled, even if it was a cheap joke.
“Besides, Kermit called me already. I'm leaving for the next flight to Los Angeles, as are all the specialists.” Piggy sighed in relief.
“What would moi do without vous?” Piggy heard a retort on the way and hissed, “Don't answer that.”
A soft chuckle sounded behind her. Piggy turned to find a face she'd hoped she'd never see again.
“I'm gonna have to call you back, Marty. Visitors.” Putting her phone down, Piggy assessed her visitor coolly.
“What do you want...Annabel?”

How's this? Hope you all like!!!

Oh I like it...I loved all the Christmas feeling stuff but it's also good to see some conflict, and your analogy about Piggie was beautiful! Loved it! So...here is my first chapter, I hope you enjoy it...and by the way, see if you can spot the reference to your story...because there will be more...please review Figgie! I'm depending on you!

THEY'VE ONLY GOT ONE ANOTHER: A MUPPET CHRISTMAS STORY

Kermit woke up early, like he always did. Ever since he had a been a tadpole he had learned to be up before the crack of dawn when the light coming through the window pane was a pale milky yellow: the best time to catch dragon flies besides the evening. Now a days he didn't have to catch flies to eat, in fact he rarely did unless they got too close, but the habit of enjoying the fresh morning air had never left him. This morning things seemed quieter than usual, and it took Kermit a minute or two to understand why. He walked downstairs into the living room of the large boarding house all the Muppets occupied, and out onto the front porch, opening the front door to a blast of cold air. Winter had finally set it, and right on cue. He closed the door again, unable to stand the chill. Surveying the empty living room, he yawned happily and flopped down on the couch. First day of real cold inevitably meant...
“Uncle Kermit?”
“Oh, hi-ho Robin. Didn't see you there. How long have you been up?”
“Just a minute. Uncle Kermit, is today the first day of Christmas?”
“Christmas is just one day Robin.”
“Oh I know that, I meant the Christmas season.”
“Because it's so cold?
“Because it feels like Christmas.” He replied happily.
Kermit smiled. “I suppose so.”
Fozzie's voice suddenly cut in. “Oh boy! Are we gonna get a Christmas tree?!”
“Fozzie? I didn't expect to see you up so early on a cold morning like this.” The honey-colored bear pulled his robe tighter around him. “If it gets much colder I may go in for hibernation.”
Rowlf shuffled sluggishly into the living-room, followed by Scooter. “What are we talking about?” Asked the former.
“Hypothermia.” Piped up Robin.
“No, no, that's hibernation. And we were talking about Christmas.” Corrected Kermit. Rowlf and Scooter looked confused.
“Kermit's gonna buy us a Christmas tree today.” Added Fozzie.
“Oh boy, that's great boss! I know where you can get the kind with the candle holders already attached to the branches...” Put in Scooter.
“Wait a minute, I never said we were getting one today! And besides, nothing with a fire hazard, you know how Gonzo is.”
“I resent that!” Gonzo hopped onto the couch in his night hat. “You know I would never burn something as unoriginal as wood! ...Although, a flaming Christmas tree would be a lot more interesting than the regular kind--”
“Kermit, I think we'd better do plastic ornaments this year. The glass kind is just asking for injuries.” Added Rowlf.
“Moi was thinking more about a pink tree this year. With red and white ornaments.”
“Oh, good morning Piggy.”
Scooter was scribbling things down on a clipboard. “So we want red and white plastic ornaments, electric lights and a pink tree?”
“What? No! At least-- not today. We've got work to do.”
“Oh Kermie, what could be more important than the Christmas spirit to inspire us?” Miss Piggy had the look on her face that proved she was at her favorite game: needling her frog.
“Erm...not spending all our money before we buy the sets and costumes for the next show?”
“The way I figure it, if we go wholesale on the tree, do only plastic ornaments, one color lights and I mention that my uncle owns the tree farm, we should be able to fit it into the budget.” “Wha...but...it's only been a week since thanksgiving!”
“Oh please uncle Kermit?”
“Yeah, c'mon Kerm...”
“I promise I won't set it on fire before Christmas day!”
“Where's your Christmas spirit?”
“Gut inspureshun tu hefe-a tu be-a cuukeeng fuud fur Chreestmes!
“All right, all right, all right!” Kermit was defeated and he knew it. Just like every year. “Clifford, your in charge of breakfast. Piggy, you and Gonzo are in charge of finding whatever's left of last year's ornaments. Fozzie, Scooter and Robin will come with me.”
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Finally able face the cold and escape the rush of early morning, Kermit sat on his favorite seat on the front porch and watched his breath in the frosty air. The day was bright, and fog was lifting off the street and white-tipped grass. He pulled his robe tighter around him as a soft but cold breeze stirred the air and made shapes in the mist. None of the neighbors had lights on their houses yet, but the Muppets were trend setters and seemed to be starting early: hints that they were ready for some Christmas had been leaking through for a few days, and something about the atmosphere of this morning demanded it. Scooter came out routinely to bring coffee, but it was his red Christmas mug. Kermit made a face. “Are we bringing out the holiday ware already?” “Well, there is a slight shortage of dishes since Animal's incident at Thanksgiving.” Kermit shrugged and took a sip. “Mm—what did you put in this?”
“Peppermint.” Said Scooter. “Peppermint is good in coffee.” He added a little wistfully before hopping back inside for the next batch. Kermit smiled as he sipped, a feeling of peace enveloping and warming him like the sweet coffee. Inside he could hear Rowlf, starting on the piano just like every morning: only today the song was Winter Wonderland. He took another sip. “Mhm...” he thought happily “Peppermint sure tastes...”
“Good-- isn't it?” Said Miss Piggy coming up behind him in her fluffiest red winter robe.
“Yes,” Said Kermit, startled. She sat down beside him, pulling her legs up and rocking back and forth. Kermit thought suddenly that he liked the cold: it seemed to define things. It certainly defined Miss Piggy, flushing her cheeks and putting color into those gorgeous blue eyes even icier than the air.
“It's a be-autiful day, isn't it dear?”
“Yes it is.” said Kermit without taking his eyes off of her. She looked at him with a little knowing smile
“What are vous thinking about?” She asked, before savoring another mouthful of coffee.
“You...” He said dreamily. Her smile increased. “Oh...did I...I meant, whatever your thinking about...” He stammered, a foolish smile creeping onto his face too. Miss Piggy flipped back her curly strands of blonde hair, and looked at the pink early-morning sky, and the mist, and the evergreen trees in the yards.
“Moi was just thinking...” She suddenly grabbed his flipper softly. “That it will be very nice to be together this Christmas.”
He smiled at her. “Aren't we together every Christmas?”
“Yes, but...we seem to get...more together every year, don't you think?” He nodded knowingly.
“I know what you mean. He listened to the sounds inside, all the lusty out-of-tune voices singing together and chortling and talking. “Not just me and you, but us. That's what makes it all worth while.”

Chapter 6: The 10th day of a Christmas Wedding

Scooter stared at the little slip of paper. The phone number of Lonnie Stewart. Sighing, he reached for his cell phone, again, and dialed the number. The rings seemed to take forever, but in reality, it was only seconds.
"Hello?" Lonnie's sweet voice carried through. Breathing a sigh of relief, Scooter answered.
"Um, hi Lonnie! I-it's Scooter."
"Oh, hi Scooter! How are you?" Even though he couldn't see her, Scooter could tell sh was smiling.
"Oh I'm fine, how about you?" There was a long sigh at the other end.
"Well, truth be told, I'm looking for another job." Scooter nearly jumped out of his seat.
"It wasn't because of me was it?! I don't know what I did, but I'm sorry if I got you fired!" The voice on the other end giggled, soothing Scooter's jitters.
"No, silly! I still have my other job, it's just I have to find another one to keep up with the bills. Trust me, all you did was actually make my day better!" Scooter blushed at the compliment.
“So, what did you call for? Are you in trouble?” Lonnie's voice was ridden with concern.
“N-no! I just, um... Do you still want to go out with me? You sound like you could use a brake.” There was a sigh of relief on Lonnie's side.
“Actually, I think that would be really nice right now. Where do want to meet?” Scooter's hear leaped to his throat.
“Why don't you come meet me at the old Muppet Theater? It's in good condition and it's always warm.”
A small squeak of delight met Scooter's ears.
“At Muppet Theater!? With you!? Oh, I've always dreamed of going there! Yes! Scooter I would love to go there!” Scooter was grinning so much, his face actually hurt.
“Oh, boy! Great, I'll see you in ten minutes to pick you up!” Lonnie giggled again, then said goodbye. Putting the phone down, Scooter rushed to the bathroom to brush his teeth and hair.
XxX
Even if Scooter wasn't a main Muppet, like Kermit, or Piggy, he still owned a pretty sweet ride. Driving to Lonnie's house, Scooter watched as his Ford Convertible received admiring and envious looks. Finally reaching Lonnie's apartment, Scooter rushed up to the door and and rang the doorbell. While he waited for Lonnie, Scooter fidgeted with his red sweater. The door opened to reveal a stunning Lonnie. Scooter had found her cute before, bit now she was gorgeous! She wore a green sweater tunic with black leggings and boots. Lonnie blushed as Scooter gaze traveled over her outfit.
“Er, it's not too much, is it?” she asked nervously. Scooter's reply was a shake of his head, which meant no and he was trying to clear his head.
“No! You look fantastic! Are you ready to go?” Scooter asked, offering his elbow. Lonnie smiled and accepted. Walking to the car, she gaped at its immaculate condition. Opening her door, Scooter helped her into the seat. She practically melted into the plush seats.
“Nice ride,” she commented. She almost laughed as Scooter's chest puffed out in pride.
When the arrived, Lonnie's whole being was shaking in excitement.
“I can't believe I'm actually here!” she squealed excitedly. Scooter smiled and together both walked toward the back stage doors. Scooter unlocked the doors and led Lonnie to center stage. Asking her to stay put, he disappeared into the wings. When he returned, music started to play. Offering his hand, he asked,
“Would you like to dance?” Lonnie blushed at her feet.
“I never learned to dance.” she mumbled. Scooter smiled gently and whispered into her ear,
“Good thing you have me for a teacher, then.” Scooter reached for her hand once more and led her across the stage. Their conversation was riddled with apologies from Lonnie as she occasionally stepped on Scooter's toes. At one point, Lonnie tripped sending both toppling to the ground. Scooter groaned and opened his eyes to only look at a very embarrassed Lonnie.
“I-I'm so sorry, Scooter! I told you I couldn't dance.” Tears started to form in her eyes as she started to get off of Scooter. Scooter sat up and held Lonnie close. She wouldn't look at him. Grasping her soft chin in his hand, Scooter turned her face so she could look up at him. Her soft brown eyes shined beautifully as looked at him.
“You know what?”
Lonnie's mouth quirked at the end.
“What?”
Leaning in closer, Scooter whispered, “You did better than me when it was my first time.”
She was about to retort, but Scooter's mouth cut her off. Kissing her gently, then more urgently Scooter moved his mouth over hers. She responded obediently, feeling her heart beat wildly against her rib cage. When they broke apart, both were both breathing heavily.
“Now that,” Scooter gasped. “should have been our first kiss.”

Oh! I feel so good about this chapter! More on Piggy and Annabel will be up soon! Hope you like it Wigitus and other readers!

Oh...wow....I feel like I died and you just wrote my eulogy....I don't...even know...what that means.....wow, to many ellipses....but that's all my brain will do right now....ellipses....
FIGGIE! First of all can I just say this caught me completely by surprise? I thought you had done with me and Scooter's little story line. I had a hard morning getting up early and trying to clean this house (my Mom passed away recently, I don't know if you remember hearing) before a family friend got here. It had it's ups and downs...and then I take a break to check my email and find this. Saying you made my day would be true, but it would also be the understatement of the century. Love you forever! OK, the first amazingly awesome And I also love Lonnie's reaction to meeting at the Muppet theater was funny (and accurate, if you add a few screams and some fainting) and I love Scooter's pride at his car...and the dancing...oh, the dancing....>sniffle< Ok, and one thing that simultaneously made me happy and freaked me out a little is....how did you know what I was wearing?! I SWEAR on my life last night to the recital I wore black boots which I bought that day, a small jean skirt, black T and a striped green cardigan/sweater. When I read that I did about three double takes. Wow. Figgie, I love you, but having you in my head reading all my fantasies and putting them into writing is a little strange . Amazing, just amazing. I can't wait for more. I'm still editing chapter two of mine to put up, and the next chappie after that will have you, promise.

Sorry that I took so long so read and comment- work has been ruling my life for a while.

Anyway- congrats- your writing in this story is great and you have been showing a lot of improvement from earlier writing- a christmas wedding is a very cute idea.

You write the sentiment and ush-gush between Kermit and Piggy very well, and as a writer and long-time fan of ush-gush, I always appreciate new and well-written ush-gush!

I agree with someone else said earlier on here- sometimes you're really excited with what's happening next in your story and may rush a little bit- I wouldn't worry about it too much ( I think everyone who starts out does that and more practice is the only thing that helps). Just know that sometimes when you slow down and add a little more detail, you can get some of the best little moments in the whole story- you did that well with Scooter in the coffee shop.

Intrigued by the entrance of Annie Sue, excited to see where that goes.

Welcome to the frog/pig ush-gush fan fic writers guild, lol. I'm sure Ru can tell you that we tend to have a good time and being hopeless frog/pig romantics, we're glad to have another writer in the mix.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks-a-mil, I am getting a little overwhelmed here with all these younguns wanting attention sometimes I feel like it's my responsibility, and I get to feeling like a failure when I can't handle it. Your fic reminds me how young I am--and how I've still got that perfect guy to look forward to meeting. We will not discuss whether Scooter is 'the perfect guy'. Anyways, at the end of a hard one, it just makes it all melt off into a pool of ushy-special goodness. Love you!
