Placido Domingo did an interview once describing the guest appearance, saying the flamingo's puppeteer kept saying to the cast and crew, "Oh look, the imposter is here!" LOL
LOL! That's really cute. Only Richard!

That is such a cool clip with Placido Domingo, too. Thanks for posting that, heralde!

Yeah I just adore the song, it's so lovely and optimistic! (I had it as my signature for a little bit lol)

You can tell Placido Domingo thought the story was really cute and funny. He seemed very humble, lol.

Not like the Flamingo! Remember this sketch?

Wow, thanks! That had been mentioned in this thread a while ago, and I was very curious to see it! What year is it from? I loved his musical Ode to Maria, and it had a cute ending with him announcing the sponsors!

Yeah, Perhaps Love with Placido Domingo, (I nearly typed Flamingo, lol), is on the Definitive John Denver collection.
So Domingo rully referred to Richard as, "the flamingo's puppeteer"?
 I don't know about that... Although certainly Richard wouldn't have complained.

I'm not sure what year exactly, but mid '80s definitely. I even remember seeing it at the time, lol.

"You can have the duck to love..."
"What? !" LOL

They used to have night shots a lot, with people yelling out of windows like a real city, lol.

And I love the deeper message, that love is best when it's between two people.

Hmm, I don't remember what he said exactly, but he did just say "the puppeteer" not the name. Hehe, but you know, it must be hard to remember names after a short guest appearance.

Nice thing about Kevin Clash, he never fails to mention Richard's name in interviews!

(chuckle) That's the way it is: a smart, down-to-earth puppeteer playing a vainglorious, occasionally obtuse puppet.

Seeing as Maestro Domingo was appearing on SS, it appears he has a good sense of humor. (And any SS guest star who arrives without a good sense of humor will find himself or herself getting chewed out big time by Richard, of course.)

I'll bet Domingo was flattered to see himself gently parodied (or rendered homage to) by a flamingo Muppet - and Richard, being an opera fan, must have been over the moon at the idea of doing a duet with one of the biggest stars in opera. And let's face it, Richard does do a rather good operatic tenor.

Well if I was an accomplished Opera singer, I would be flattered and gratified if a show was genuinely making the effort to introduce kids to such a misunderstood genre.

I heard they're still making that effort in many inner city middle schools, teaching kids the art and history of Opera, and encouraging them to attend. It's a shame Richard couldn't continue to be a part of that now. But hopefully he's managed to teach the Heavenly children a few things, lol.

Btw, Steve also has a poll on the Muppetcast site, for which guest should go first. And you can vote mulitple times! I don't really think that's entirely fair, lol, but we can always take the opportunity!

And who's to say he doesn't still have even a little bit of influence on the inner-city school programs from on high?

Yeah, maybe chewed out by Richard, but more likely tied up in knots by one of his characters. Isn't it great in a sort of evil way when you see some celeb big on attitude but short on talent or personality get completely trampled by someone they're interviewing or making an appearance with?

Oh, how true that is.

Oh I know EXACTLY what you mean, lol. A lot of these big movie stars are put to same when put up against actual actors.

Reminds me of a Star Trek special a few years ago, hosted by Ben Stiller. He was always called a nerd by his friends. "But now I'm sharing the stage with the entire cast of Fraiser and Kenny G!...Who's the nerd?" LOL

Also reminds me of a Grammys from a few years ago when a category was between Justin Timberlake and George Harrison. Justin won, for some strange reason, heh. But you know, he'll never be remembered the way George is.

Oh, yeah, it's lots of fun - I mean, their whole facade gets shattered in the blink of an eye.

I wonder, which guest stars did Richard have to chew out on the set? They're not giving any names, but still...who'd be ill-tempered enough to warrant a vitriolic tongue-lashing from Raging Richie?

And it's also very satisfying to hear of some bright kid who got teased a lot, but grew up to become a star. It puts one over on the kids who stole your lunch money, or made fun of your clothes...or, in the case of someone we know, stole the newspapers you were supposed to deliver after school, while your back was turned, and threw them into a puddle.

That story just really sticks with me for some reason...I wonder how many times Richard had that happen to him?
