As for Richard...well, when I saw a photo of him (it was the one on his main tribute page) for the first time, I thought, "Hmm, okay, yeah, I can see him playing Scooter." And when I saw another photo, a headshot of him wearing the famous gray tweed newsboy cap, I thought, "Yep, definitely Scooter."
if I just saw Richard, I would guess he performed Scooter... OR Junior Gorg, s'pose.
Hehehe! I love double quoting!

I remember the first time I saw his photo on the main tribute page. Actually what clicked with me was "I could see this guy playing Junior Gorg." But yeah the tweed cap photo did it for me too as far as Scooter.

My friend recently saw Richard in Trading Places, but nothing reminded her of his characters. Then I showed her Richard's scene in Of Muppets and Men and she said, "He's just like Scooter!!!"

I've noticed something really interesting about the Muppet performers. Sometimes when you watch them, it's almost like you can see their characters in them. I don't just mean the voice, their facial expresssions and mannerisms. Just for a minute. It's very strange. You watch them and for just an instant, you see someone familiar. Even when they don't physically look like their characters.

And nice to see you again Kiki! Beatles babe, yay!

Aww, fankya, heralde.
Yeah... I notice that w/ the Muppet performers too, their facial expessions are like their characters. I actually get told by my friends and stuff that I ACT like a Muppet! How weird's that? Like, I make a funny face or something and they laugh and go "Ha, you look like a Muppet, Katie!" but I do not mind.

Hehe, that's funny, Kiki. Nah, it's a compliment.

One time I was happy about something and chose to celebrate by going "Yay!" like Kermit does and waving my arms around (actually I used to do that a lot as a kid lol). My Father said, "Uh, you are not a Muppet!" Lol

You know, several weeks ago, my dad, brother and I were discussing Trading Places (conversation started with American Werewolf in London and veered madly away from there), and I mentioned the presence of certain noteworthy Muppeteers in the film. I said that Richard played Wilson the stockbroker, and Dad asked, "Wasn't he the one the two bad guys sent into the pit to buy shares of..." or something like that.

I know; when I've seen Richard appear on camera, he appears to move his head almost the same way Scooter does...and in the Down at Fraggle Rock documentary, Jim seems to have some of Kermit's mannerisms. (and when Mom watched it with me, she said, "It's kind of weird, 'cause he does sound exactly like Kermit the Frog.")

Cool, yeah one of my friends remembered who Wilson was too when I mentioned it. The film does seem to have a loyal cult following.

I'm sure Richard was fabulous in Trading Places, but was the movie itself any good? I havn't seen it yet, grrr. But I would like to.
Btw heralde, I used to do the 'spastic-Kermit-arm-waving' thing too... still do.

Excellent! Hehe

I've seen the whole movie, it's one of those classic '80s comedies. The plot's a little silly, but Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy are both really funny, as are the two old guys.

The two old guys were Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche.

Charles: Don Giovanni.
Hawkeye: Well, "Don" sing anymore, please!

Sorry. Anyhue, that quilting book sounds pretty interesting Erin. I'll have to get my own hands on a copy somehow.

Going back to an earlier topic (pre-Pie Fight), I found it interesting that Richard was a James Taylor fan. James Taylor put in an appearance on an episode of Ghost of Faffner Hall (the composition episode, or as I call it "The One Where the Wild Impresario Runs Around the House in his Bathrobe all Day"), and he even sang a song for Wild. It was called "You Can Close Your Eyes". I'll bet filming that scene was great fun for Richard.
