I am sure the virus was here well before we realized it. By the time you find your first confirmed case it is already too late. It still doesn't really explain the low numbers. I think the numbers being lower than New York have to do with how the people responded. In NY Cuomo has literally scolded people on TV for not taking things seriously in NYC. People still hold gatherings, they still crowd together in parks, they are crowded together on public transit more than in CA. That's freaking early. Our district voted to truncate our April break, so instead of a full week off it's just today through Monday. We'll go back on Tuesday, and then finish out the year probably between June 3-10.May 20 would be around the time the school year ends around here.
That's why they are doing the study to see if Californians had it in higher numbers when they thought it was an early flu season.
