Licensing deals can be very frustrating and complicated unfortunately. In the end, it all comes down to how the holder feels.

"Honk Around the Clock" is my #1 favorite Sesame thing, so I'm glad it got used (I didn't mind losing "I Want to Count" because it's such a lame parody, despite Cab and Jerry's talents).

Even reruns of SNL on cable TV, they always leave out the entire final half-hour of skits, which is a third of the entire show.
I always figured maybe it's easier to syndicate reruns of an hour-long show than a 90-minute show. And I think I read that the 30 minutes cut from each episode are bits that didn't work, Weekend Update reports that didn't work, and (which could be due to licensing) the musical guests second number.

That's right. Soon you children might be watching Count von Count explaining the Trinity, Cookie Monster on Communion, and Big Bird talking about God's grace.
