Back in ancient times (when I was the age of the kids in these commercials), same deal with me.Are parents today incredibly lax and desensitized or what?
I mean if I tracked mud in the house like that little girl did with that frog, my parents certainly wouldn't just smile and shake their heads and shrug it off while mopping it up - I would have been grounded and probably even gotten a spanking. Or the kid who keeps spilling everything and the parents just clean up after him with paper towels? Yeah, my parents would have made me clean up the messes myself, and depending on how frequent the messes were, I'm sure they would have done something to punish me to get their message across.
I make the mess, I clean it up. Even when the mop was taller than me.
Then I'd get an earful for making the mess in the first place.
There's a similar commercial for Scotchgard floors. Two moms in the living room, enjoying their lattes. Distant voice from another room:
Bratty kid: "Mom! I spilled paint on the floor!"
Mom #1: "That's okay!"
Mom #2: "Whaaaa????"
Mom#1: "We got Scotchgard floors, so cleanup is a breeze!"
Bratty kid: "Mom!!!"
Both moms, smiling: "THAT'S OKAY!!"
Meanwhile the kid could take matches and set fire to the curtains and burn the house down.
But at least the floors will stay clean.
