David, what's the proper spelling of Koozebane? Did they misspell it on the DVD, or have I been misspelling it all my life?
You've got the proper spelling. That's how it's spelled in "The Muppet Show Book". It may also have been spelled out in "The Muppet Valentine Show" just prior to that sketch, tho I'd have to double-check.

The Muppet Show -Season 1 Wins TV-DVD Award!

"The Muppet Show - Season 1" Wins TV-DVD Award

In case you were interested, the winners of the 2005 TV-DVD Award have been announced. The award recognizes the best releases of TV shows on DVD in the past year. Studios submitted their top DVD titles for consideration in the 15 TV-DVD categories. The titles were then rated by expert judges, and their ratings were tallied. The top three TV-DVD titles in each category were then listed on an online ballot and voted upon by consumers on the Home Media Retailing website. After much calculation and deliberation, the winners were announced and the awards were presented (by Donny Osmond) at the 3rd Annual TV-DVD Conference held in Marina del Rey this week.

"The Muppet Show – Season 1" won for "Best Children’s Series" (although many Muppet fans will argue the show is not just a children’s show). Disney/Buena Vista is delighted by the honor (of which “The Muppet Show” was their only win out of the 15 categories this year). I am told that a “Season 2” set is in the works, however no solid information on the release is available yet (I’ll keep you posted as soon as I hear anything).

Also, Henson fan’s will be happy to hear that Lions Gate’s release of "Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars" on DVD won in the "Best Miniseries/Made-for-TV Movie" category. I'm sure everyone at Lions Gate and Henson are pleased with their award as well.

Congratulations to all of the 2005 TV-DVD winners! And thanks to all the fans of the set who voted for the DVD, and the producers who made these great DVD products a reality.

As I sit here with my 17month old son and rewatch the shows - I have only one real beef... You cant pick a particular scene in any particular show. It's an episode or nothing. But over all I love it and suprizingly, my kid LOVES it!

Strange how Muppets tonight changing the format from Theatre to TV show kinda fizzled out... But I think if Big D decides to redo the show the THEATRE IS THE WAY TO GO!

WAY TO GO TMS DVD!

Yeah, I think the Theater is the way to go in a new show; but also have Kermit host again. I think that was one of the other problems, including lack of the classic Muppets in Muppets Tonight (however, I personally DO love that show).

I wonder if the Muppet Morsels were written before or after Disney went after the owners of the various songs, including cut songs. The Muppet Morsels never mentioned any songs that were cut from the DVD (then again, it might be weird for them to be mentioned, and Disney might not have wanted casual fans who didn't know about the missing scenes to be annoyed by reading about what couldn't be shown). If morsels were written before music rights were given permission for, then it would be interesting to see what the morsels would have said about various scenes. I'm sure that All of Me and You've Got a Friend would have had quite a few fun facts given.

I've been thinking about how the Vincent Price episode was uncut on the time life release but not in this set. I wonder if Time-Life made certain deals with the owners of certain songs that either limited the time for song permission on the episodes, making them expire, or if Time-Life made a deal that the songs could only be incldued on the Time-Life releases (and Columbia versions, though the volume with the Vincent Price episode was skipped), therefore causing Disney to have to get the rights to each song a secodn time.

When the compilations were made, I think that all music rights were only bought for the use of those compilations, and not for any video releases of full episodes, therefore making Henson (and Disney) have to pay for the rights again. With the compilations, if any music rights owners said no to certain songs being released, at least they weren't full episodes and nothing would be forced to be included.

I have noticed that none of the first season songs that have been released on various albums were cut.

They were written before, during, and after all the legal work was finished to clear everything. I am pretty sure that that morsels were written for most (if not all) of the cut scenes, but were dropped along the way as the skits were cut and they are not included on the disc to logical reasons. No mention to the cut scenes were made in the morsels because the producers did want to draw attention to the unfortunate cut scenes, and most of the morsels were already written and in place before the final call on the cuts were made (the specific comments on the cut material was simply cut along with the musical numbers/skits in would have appeared in).

I think you meant to say that the producers did not want to draw attention to the cut scenes.
