That said, there is one current genre of music I really don't like. I don't even know what it's called, so I'm just calling it Faux-Folk. I can't even remember the bands' names, or song titles. Like the one that goes, "I'm in love with you, you're in love with me, you're my sweetheart" and that other one that goes "Fo-o-o-r yo-u-u-u-u! fo-o-o-o-r Yo-u-u-u-u..." etc. Anything played to sound like it was written 200 years ago. Or as a promo for the FX series "Sex Drugs and Rock n' Roll" would call it, band made up of members that "look like they'd be shot for Civil War desertion." No thank you.
At least that was only truly popular from around late 2012 to around early 2014. I haven't heard those types of songs on Top 40 since that time, but then again, I listen to Rock stations, because that's what I like.

Totally agree about matter of taste not equaling quality. That banjo-y, ukelely ridden stuff does have its fans and that's okay. I just really hate that genre. I can't say I'm a huge fan of folk music, but I respect it. My dad listened to Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seager all the time. It sounds like those bands are trying to be that but just being a soundtrack to a fakey pseudo-independent movie.

That said, the only genre of music I find totally, unobjectively garbage is Bro-Country. That stuff is mindless garbage that makes even the most cynically produced club hip hop look authentic by comparison. And yes, that includes "Shake Your Laffy Taffy."

That's a song. it exists. It's terrible. But it's freaking Queen compared to Bro Country.
Yeah, I don't like either of those, but that brings me to a new point: how awful is Fetty Wap? I can't tell what level of seriousness he takes himself because all of his songs have the same electronic beat that at one point sounds like it's skipping, incoherent chanting that's not really even rapping, and a strange voice, but he's huge, and it's terrible in my opinion.
Man, why don't I just say all rap since 2015 has that beat, I swear it does. I miss rap pre-2009-ish.

I was going to post this in the commercial rant thread, but decided the topic would be more appropriate for discussion here without going wildly off topic if anyone bothers to add anything to the conversation.

While I never really snap at movie trailer TV spots, since it's technically not the commercial producers fault for stupid reviews, the "Free State of Jones" TV spot really annoys the crap out of me for using the blurb "Finally! A movie for adults."

Seriously!? Whoever wrote that review has his head so far up his own body that he looped over several times. Now, I'll ignore the fact that the film's getting garbage reviews (heh heh heh!), probably for looking like a mockbuster clone of Twelve Years a Slave with a bit of lobotomized until it's a vegetable that can barely make a sound version of Django Unchained with a whole lot of Mr. Alrightalrightalright winking and nodding at the camera thrown in. Clearly he thought this would be Oscar Bait and an easy win after the totally undeserved Oscar for Dallas Buyer's Club. I swear, all actors should be forced to see "Tropic Thunder."

But here's the thing that never fails to get me. Sure, complaining about sequels and remakes and franchises is nothing new and to be expected. There's no doubt good films that can come out of that sort of system, sure. I just hate the state of mind that anyone who wants to watch something escapist and fun (what movies, nay, entertainment in general is freaking for), say a Marvel Studios film, is some overgrown child with massive arrested development and everyone involved should be making more depressing period pieces about how terrible things were instead of somehow contributing to making everyone a drooling idiot. First off, I've been saying for years the same crap anyone can say about sequels, remakes, comic book movies, and even those terrible tween lit films...ahem...goes freaking double for Oscar Baiting films. Depressing, overly biased Biopic? Check. Film about depressing thing in history we must never forget despite the fact there are already better movies that talk about that subject matter you could be watching instead? And conversely it's subject matter that's not going to change hearts and minds that didn't want to be changed? CHeeeeeyeck. Actual...actually good movie that you'd actually want to see, but never get around to? Check with a "it didn't make me cry enough because sad is an adult emotion" slapped on.

I hate when "mature movie" means stock old British actress meets stock old British actor in exotic location. Like I said, That Exotic Marigold Hotel thing got a sequel, so those older film goers lost the right to whine about sequelitis. You're never too old to outgrow fun, no matter how crabby you get.

A thought just crossed my mind, and there's actually an interesting parallel between the complains of the right's stance on stricter gun laws, and a complaint that the American people have on a completely different matter:

The right complains that just because guns happen to fall into the hands of these mental cases who go around shooting up movie theaters, businesses, concerts, gathers, events, gay bars, what have you, that that shouldn't be any reason to enforce stricter gun laws, because it's the fault of those said mental cases for getting those guns, not the people who sold them the guns, nor the guns themselves.

So, by that logic, then just because terrorists happen to sneak onto planes and crash into skyscrapers and other buildings, that shouldn't be any reason that we have to either be molested or have naked scans taken of us just to get on a plane, because it's the fault of the terrorists for sneaking onto planes, not us or the planes themselves.

It's not the government to blame for this (at least that directly). Any and all gun legislation is held hostage by the NRA, a group NOBODY likes, but has such a strangle hold on our government, they make the mafia (any one, actually) look like an incorruptible group of friendly advisors. Wayne LaPierre is just plain evil, he's the one that turned the NRA into hunting enthusiasts to a dangerous maniac that twisted the meaning of the second amendment (it's not even about owning guns so much as the right of a militia to be armed to make sure England didn't try to take the colonies back. They didn't have anything like today's army, you see). They even pulled a Joseph Smith and said they found a whole new wording to the second amendment that they were unable to produce and show. The NRA is basically the gun manufacturers of America that want to make money, especially off tragedy caused by their unscrupulous practices. Wayne just buys minions to run for government and spread Glen Beckian levels of paranoid conspiracy theories that sound almost exactly like what you would get from a drunk homeless guy on the street. And you better the CRAP be his minion when you have a government position, or the NRA will turn on you by sponsoring an even more loyal mindless minion and pouring millions of dollars into negative political ads to get their way. They do not screw around. They're evil, plain and simple.

But the thing that really ticks me off is when someone keeps saying "I thought they would have done something after innocent children got mowed down." Ugh... I get what they're saying, I know what they mean, and yeah, shame on the NRA for not only refusing to have any self awareness, but also to spread the conspiracy theory that it was all faked by the media so they can make money off of butthurt little gun fetishists who think something was going to happen to their precious Doomsday ammo hoard. The observation that really should have been made is "holy crap! We should have banned assault rifles after San Bernadito!" I can't believe how easily everyone forgot the awful 2001-2008 era. Back when we were so paranoid about terrorism, the government did everything in its power to throw as much legislation around to keep us "safe" that no one cared we were losing the Bill of Rights left and right. And those who spoke up were "evil commie El Queso sympathizing hippies." The US government did everything to stop the flow of terrorism, save not freaking going to war with Middle Eastern countries which pretty much creates terrorism.

With all the right's crap about the Democommies being soft on terrorism, the fact that they couldn't even pass legislation to prevent another whiny little closet case from buying a weapon made to kill hundreds in the field of battle to shoot something up and then say "I'm one of that Isis! Admiral Ackbar!!!" pretty much shows to me that the right loves to shift terrorism blame to anyone but them and then refuse to do anything meaningful. Sure, we can have TSA agents feel up a little girl, but just try to put a small amount of paperwork in the way of someone who wants to buy a German Luger for...you know... hunting wabbits? Can't be done, or that senator would be replaced by someone even further to the right.

:sigh:

Another mass shooting, and once again, the right is blaming Obama for it, when he's the one who's been trying to enforce stricter gun laws to prevent this from happening all along.

I have very little sympathy for the "Black Lives Matter" protesters when some of them are willing to kill innocent cops and even white people in general. Plus, a lot of their behavior just gives racists more ammo to use against them, both literally and figuratively.
