Not really; it's been fairly simple up until now. Most difficult part was painting the name panels, and I'm pretty good at that.

We're starting in on the Muppets themselves. NOW it gets tricky.

Nice how Richard is bringing out creativity in us. The other day I decided I need to sharpen my Microsoft Power Point skills, so I started my own little presentation on Richard. So far it's going well, and I'm getting experience!

Here's the scoop:

We've been working on it for about a month. It was the day that one of the campus ministry groups brought in a piece of the AIDS Quilt to put on display, and that night, I was scheduled to go to a rock concert with my family. On our way to a Chinese place for dinner before the show, as I was chatting about seeing the quilt, Mom asked, point blank, "You want to do an AIDS panel for Richard Hunt?" And after a few seconds of deliberation, I said, "Sure!"
This was back in September, and we've been working on it for about a month now, working out the design and putting the basic structure together.

I think I can spill a bit more about what it's going to look like. It'll have a green background and orange border. At the edges, we've got red Muppet Theater-type curtains, and we're going to have Scooter, Janice, Beaker and Sweetums peering out from behind them (and Statler poking his head up from below). In the middle, we'll have a few panels with Richard's name, occupation, birth and death dates and all that, and a bunch of smaller panels holding the names of eight of his characters.

Wow! That's... awesome!!! Sounds fab, great idea MN!

Sounds nice. Good luck with those muppets; they're the reason you're doing this, after all!
So, how does this work exactly? When you're finished, will you send it to the foundation?

Yeah, we'll mail it to the quilt people (we'd like to have it mailed by Dec. 1), and they'll eventually archive it and add it to a quilt block. Don't know when they'll do it, though. They used to notify panel donors when their panel got added to the quilt, but stopped it when it became too difficult.

They also request that you include a letter detailing your relationship with the deceased, so I'm going to write about my feelings as a fan.

Guess I ought to give Amanda and the other Hunts a heads-up about this?

Okay, so that's how it works. Thanks. So wait a minute? Do they just use the letter for refference of some kind, or can they actually refuse the pannel if the letter is unsatisfactory?

Oh well, I guess you can always check the website regularly to see if yours has been added. What is the address again, so I can go check it out?

The website for the AIDS quilt is http://www.aidsquilt.org/. Maybe they want a letter to prove the person was legit, so to speak. After all, most people mentioned in the Quilt aren't famous.

Yeah, you should let Amanda know, I'm sure they'll be happy.

Oh, they know who Richard was; he and three of his Muppets are mentioned by name in the "Quilt Facts" section on the site. I guess they just want the letter so they can know a bit of the story behind the panel.

I've never heard of the quilt people turning a panel away, though.

Most quilt names weren't famous, but they're all equally valued.

Oh, forgot to mention: on the curtains, I painted the names of the three major shows that Richard worked on (TMS, SS, FR), and, to fill the fourth piece of curtain, 'The Muppet Films' (wasn't enough room for me to put in all the Muppet movie titles...oh, well).

Oh I know, I've seen his name on the site. I didn't think they weren't equally valued. I was just speculating that maybe they'd require a letter to verify about other people who weren't well known. But it's just speculation. I'm sure they also just want a back story.
