How true that is, it doesn't pay to be jealous of people. Everyone has their own problems. The Women's Lib movement was good to fight for women in the workplace. Women deserve all the same rights as men to work for a living and persue their dreams. But I think once women did enter the workplace in a big way, they realize what men have known for years, that work can also be difficult and stressful, especially with a family to raise. For me, two things are most important, that no one involves gets hurt, and everyone has a choice in the matter.

Omg! I haven't seen this in years! I distinctly remember this song. I like how Placido had to ask Hoots what he meant by "it's where I'm at." Lol

Sort of goes along with what we were talking about with opera and all. It's strange how we assume that if someone is a Jazz or Pop fan, they can't possibly like Opera, or vice versa. People are more complicated than that, thank goodness!
Indeed; we have much to be thankful for because of Women's Lib, and it has resulted in benefits, I think, for both women and men. Sure, some people think "feminist" is a dirty word, but I proudly consider myself a feminist. We're all humans, after all.

And as for people who like both classical and popular music; hey, I'm a rock person, but I like to have NPR on the radio in the car sometimes. And look at Richard; he was an opera fan, but it seems that he was also a big James Taylor fan. So there ya go.

In the meantime, to give myself something to do, I've just signed up to both Wikipedia and Muppet Wiki.

Oh cool, yeah I signed up for both of them, that can be blast (at least when you have something cool to contribute!)

I like being contrary (or a pain in the neck depending on how you look at it lol) and avoid labels so I don't use the term "feminist" much. I just say I'm a human being who clearly wants what everyone should want. Which is the same thing in theory anyway. Hehe :flirt:  :excited:

Go right ahead, heralde; some of the world's greatest thinkers and do-ers were contrary at times.

Yeah, some of the stuff on Wikipedia can be hit and miss...but when it's well-written and researched, it's really worth your time.

Yeah I always say Wiki is good for very quick searches. But not so reliable for a term paper. You can use it a bit, but even then, you should check the info with other sources.

Basically, if you're writing a paper on heart surgery, it would not be advisable to head to Wikipedia!

Yeah, not a place to get information or song important like a report. I did sign up for Wikipedia a while back, but long sense forgotten my log in information.

Well, for Muppet Wiki, I'm using my MC handle. For the main Wikipedia, I'm using a different name.

Some profs let us use Wikipedia for research projects, but others (mostly in the English dept.) forbid it on pain of death. (Or pain of F.)

Well using Wiki too much is just too easy. It's like Cliff Notes, you can't really be sure if you learned anything. And if the information isn't entirely accurate, it's just not worth it.

Speaking of movies, I'm watching the Wizard of Oz right now on DVD, lol. The film quality is astounding, so sharp and detailed! I've seen this movie all my life, yet I feel as though I'm seeing it for the first time.

You know, something occured to me for the first time while watching this. Bert Lahr (who plays the Cowardly Lion) actually reminds me of Richard as a performer. He's so larger than life and completely into this outrageous role. Even when some part might have been embarrassing, he went for it in order to make the role perfect.

A book I have on the movie has this quote from Bert's son. It may sound initially like a put down, but it definitely isn't:

"Generally, he was slated for second-banana parts...too grotesque in close-up (his energy made him grotesque) to work in full form in films. It's very important to stress that he was so large a comic figure, I mean he radiated such energy and size, that the camera could only accept it as 'real' if he was an animal and not human."

Perhaps it's also because the Lion sort of reminds me of Junior Gorg, and even Sweetums actually. This big bumbling guy who at first seems quite frightening, but is in reality rather sweet and also scared. And loves to steal the show with a witty and memorable number! And let's not forget, both the Lion and Junior yearn to be King, either of the forest or the universe!

And not only that! Bert Lahr was famous for playing a "Stagedoor Johnny" in the film "Ship Ahoy!" You may remember a certain Muppet Show heckler being given the same title! :boo:

Finally, viewers of "Muppets Go the Movies" might recall Janice's "favorite flick of all time...The Wizard of Oz! Fer sure! I love Oz, I may move there. Rully!" :flirt:

You now I was watching this movie the other day on TMC and it has all this commentary and all theses details about every seen and all the extra scenes them and all this information about the actors and it's opening and everything and I think that I know too much about that particular movie now, LOL! But during one of the breaks they mentions that the cowardly Lion's outfit weighed like 80 pounds and how difficult it was for him to have to do the scenes where he dives out that window after he freaks out when he sees the great Oz over and over again in such a heavy suit.:stick_out_tongue:
