Okay, heralde, stop and take a few deep breaths...let the oxygen into your lungs...

Cheery little opera, Ernani is. And so many of the great operas do seem to involve a young woman who's in a relationship that ends violently, like Madama Butterfly, and Lucia di Lammermoor...must be a trend.

On to something a tad cheerier: another Muppet dream. I've already posted it in the Dreams about Muppets thread, but I'll repost it here since it involves Richard.

I dreamed that all the Fraggle Rock performers went to a skating rink near the CBC studios to play their own version of rock hockey. And they managed to play it the way it's shown in "Playing 'Til it Hurts," except that they're all wearing ice skates instead of greaseberry leaves, of course.

Let's see...Karen Prell was one of the lead players, and I remember seeing her skating around, wielding a rock hockey stick. Richard was either a team captain or a coach, and he was skating around giving directions and orders to the other players, and I saw Dave Goelz, Kathy Mullen, Steve Whitmire and a whole bunch of others. Jim, I think, was off acting as scorekeeper.

It was winter, of course; everyone was wearing warm clothes - sweaters, scarves, mittens and gloves and all that stuff; Karen also had on a hat shaped like Red's hair, and I remember that Richard's skates had either black or dark blue boots on them.

True, not the brightest of topics. But I'm grateful I saw it, it shows that being happy isn't about having your life turn out all perfect. It's about how you react to the bad things in your life. So in a way it is a cherry notion. That you can conquer anything that life gives you and take control. It's a very valuable lesson to take with us.

Lol, great dream, that's something I would pay to see!

Me too...it's a shame that part of my dreams only lasted a few seconds; I'd have wanted to see a full game of silly creature-style rock hockey.

And of course, we all love to hear about what our favorite Muppet performers did when they didn't have their arms raised in front of the camera.

Well, on opera in general, I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Haralde. From its beginnings, opera has always been an upper class art form, and although of course there are exceptions, there are many opera-goers who will be quick to remind you of that fact! However, like you've both said, it certainly isn't boring! It's got everything a play has, only in a different package. I'd also like to go to an opera someday. The closest I've been was a modern English interpretation of the Magic Flute. I'm kinda like you Erin; I know I'd never get my mom or anyone else in my immediet family to go. Infact, my great aunt who taught me nearly everything I know about opera once called and told me that Madam Butterfly was playing in the city. We both chuckled knowingly, because we knew without even saying it that Mom wouldn't be interested in sitting several hours listening to something she couldn't understand.
Hmmm, don't know why I mentioned that. Just seemed like an interesting little anecdote to illustrate the point. So Haralde? Were the subtitles written on the program, or what?

Actually the words were electronically displaced on the seat in front of you! Very confusing at first, figuring out how to read the words and then watch the stage. Though it helped that the reading took quicker than the actual singing! I love the operetta Pirates of Penzance and when you think of it like that (people expressing their emotions and thoughts through song), it made a lot more sense, it's just in a different language. (Italian in this case...even though the story takes place in Spain....lol)

Interesting actually, some sources say that while America sees opera as an upper class sort of thing, other countries see it as folk music. ::shrugs:: I'll have to do more research though lol

Found this lovely little clip, yay for gender equality! Surprisingly, something we've gotten away from lately.

::Sigh:: Turns out I have a throat infection. My doctor says it's not serious and I just have to take the medication. But it's truly the worst pain I've had in my life. It's been three days, and very difficult to live with.

It just goes to show that wanting to being royalty or something that your not anything that may seem easier or looks like a fun time might not always be the job, role or everything that it cracked up to me. And aw, I think that she may have just felt useless and not needed or unimportant being so important and that she just wanted to make her self useful. But it just goes with the old Grass is greener saying you know. You really have to be happy with where you are in life and happy with you're self because it doesn't always come with being something you're not or do not with to be or do. Trade jobs with someone else for a day with a princess and it might just not be what your looking for because it might just be under your nose. But I see what you mean about how the roles that were typically meant for females in society haven't always been the most equal.

Has anybody seen the scene where Placido, Hoot and his grand daughter Athena want to sing a song don't cant decide on what type of music they should sing because Hoots and Athens want to sing Jazz as that their kind of music they play and Placido wants to sing opera because that the kind of music he likes and sings. Not being able to decide they are all feeling really down and have the blues, so hoots comes to a compromise that they show all sing the blues because that whet that all have are are feeling.

So without further ado, "here's Tow Owls and one Pink Flamingo Blues!"

How true that is, it doesn't pay to be jealous of people. Everyone has their own problems. The Women's Lib movement was good to fight for women in the workplace. Women deserve all the same rights as men to work for a living and persue their dreams. But I think once women did enter the workplace in a big way, they realize what men have known for years, that work can also be difficult and stressful, especially with a family to raise. For me, two things are most important, that no one involves gets hurt, and everyone has a choice in the matter.

Omg! I haven't seen this in years! I distinctly remember this song. I like how Placido had to ask Hoots what he meant by "it's where I'm at." Lol

Sort of goes along with what we were talking about with opera and all. It's strange how we assume that if someone is a Jazz or Pop fan, they can't possibly like Opera, or vice versa. People are more complicated than that, thank goodness!

Yeah, it's good that women are able to enter the workplace now and that things are so much better then is was! There's just a balance in life where you should be happy about where you are if things really aren't that bad at the same tome you should never settle for what's given to you in life if you're not satisfied with it. Sesame was quick to jump on the mind set that women should be able to do the same things as men. And I think it's bigger then just a movement, not that it isn't important, but one that a change of heart and attitude n people about pigeon holding people in and the things they think about another person and how how their looked upon. Were all humans and like you said we're all complicated. You know there's a quote that says that man's heart can chge the law, but the law cannot change man's heart. You can change law and things that make it unfair for people, but until you have a change of heart, then I think that from with in that that tis where real change starts to begin. Once attitudes change about women and to role they play in society and people can see the full person, the human being, then things I think it's better for everybody and it affect how things will change for the better too because everyone has something to contribute to society.

I really liked that when placido was singing that we was still sining in a time signature that opera is song in rather then blues, LOL!

But I agree that it's possible to like different kinds of music and that nobody is really a simpleton. You can like things that seem to tally unrelated but are probably more similar the people think. it's like how classic literature you find many of the same these in today then many of todays movies and things. Kind of goes with the saying that the more things change the more they stay the same. I'm glad we're all not simpletons, either. hehe! I know that I get strange looks if I'm singing one kind of music from people who are fans of both kinds of music. And I know that when I sing or know something that way before my time that I get strange looks from people and that don't respect me to be fans of it because I'm not for that time or that I should be singing it or know anything about it because it before I came along. It like that put you in a place where you neatly fold into were you should be in society or like there trying to tell you where you should be. All I know is if it's good to me, then no matter what time it's from I'm going to like it. People say you should only like stuff that geared toward you and people your age, LOL! But it's not always the best stuff you know? So to like it just because it for my age is ridiculous, hehe!:stick_out_tongue:
