Haha, that's a great question, Ed. (Ok, so I'm a few days late... y'all don't mind, do ya?) Now granted, I've only watched this once because I'm not a big fan of this pilot, but I thought the puppet was really cute and entertaining-looking, too! I had to giggle when I first saw it.

Now, I was thinking a bit about your question, Ed, and I was thinking about the different meanings of the word lust, and I actually think that it was a perfect character for Richard... because of his pure lust for life. For a person who was so spirited and energetic, who lived everyday so fully and who I can't imagine would ever let an opportunity pass by him, I think it was pretty perfect for him!

By the way Erin, I had never heard of The Lady of the Dunes before... but it's really strange! And creepy. *shudder*
Hi Skye, nope we don't mind that it's a few days late, I was hoping someone else would respond to that question, lol. Just wondering, why didn't you like the Sex and Violence pilot? (I'm actually not too big a fan of the Valentines Special hehe)

I hadn't thought of it but I agree, it was actually a good choice for Richard. Most of the time we think of the negative definition of Lust (and obviously that's what the puppet was going for there lol). But there is an additional defintion, "ardent enthusiasm; zest; relish: an enviable lust for life" (dictionary.com).

I definitely think that fits what we know of him. On the one hand, he didn't hesitate to be loud and crazy and take chances in performing and interacting with others. And then on the other, he also realized how important it was to stop and appreciate the beautiful things in this world.

Oh, well honestly, I just didn't think Sex and Violence was very funny. I really only liked the parts with the sins... I found the different ones real cute (and I liked the end where they showed the Muppeteers doing their thing... that's very cool to see!) I was grateful to get to see the pilot, but it wasn't my favorite.

Lol yeah, I looked up "Lust" in the dictionary too, to make sure what I was going to say made sense, hehe!

Oh, absolutely. Richard had so many different sides to his personality, just like everyone does, really. He's definitely someone who's never boring to learn about!

Yeah I understand, I like most of Sex & Violence, except the interactions between Nigel and Sam, a little out of character and weird. I'm glad they settled on Kermit. Nigel was interesting, but a little dry and negative, lol.

Probably one of my favorite parts is Floyd saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, we are here! The highlight of the evening!" Lol, he's trying so hard to push his band to the top. :sing:

I also liked the birds who said "What do you say?" etc. They were cute, lol. I felt so bad for Frank's bird, who was too shy to talk to the girl bird. And you can kinda see Richard when the blue bird goes to the tree on the left, lol.

And of course seeing the puppeteers at the end was awesome! Dig those crazy clothes! Lol

Yup, it hasn't gotten boring yet, lol! It is interesting to think of the many different ways he learned to appreciate life.

Ahh yes, the birds were cute, and it was an adorable concept! Hehe, that was more cute than funny. Of course, there are limitations to how much you can do with those silly little birds, but they were used really nicely!

Lol, I love how long we can go and talk about Richard (4,354 posts worth so far!) It's fun to learn about the different things in his life, and fun to discover the many (often weird, hehe) things he did... he enjoyed life, and heck, he brings lotsa life to this group!

You can pretty much see all of them back there, in their black clothes and hoods - they look like a group of ninjas, in a way.

I definitely think that fits what we know of him. On the one hand, he didn't hesitate to be loud and crazy and take chances in performing and interacting with others. And then on the other, he also realized how important it was to stop and appreciate the beautiful things in this world.
Quite so: like most people, Richard had at least two sides: there was the crazy, zany joker side that he most often showed off in the studio, and then there was the quiet, pensive, spiritual side, the side of Richard that liked to go on long walks through the woods, listen to the birds sing and look up at the stars at night.

It's true that lust has multiple meanings, more than just the gutter-level meaning. (but then, every word in the English language has a gutter-level definition) In Richard's case, it would indicate that he had a strong sense of optimism and joie de vivre. (and I'll bet he got a thrill out of playing a puppet that would have some shock value for some viewers)

Oh, thought I'd mention this - I was perusing one of the HP fan sites, and in one of the articles on Harry, there's a picture of him done by a fan artist - and in that drawing, he looks (at least to me) a heck of a lot like Richard.

Hey Erin... Wanted to say that my bookstores didn't have the cassette version, but I did buy the audio CD version. I'm on Chapter 6, Disc 3... Great stuff so far.
And to contribute to the discussion... Once upon a time, I pondered on a Muppets version of HP, the titular character being Crazy Harry Potter. But after forming more friendships and threads like this great RHLC starting up, you think Scooter would be a better fit?

Can draw up a list of character candidates and we can compare either here or back at the dorms with Nora and Storyteller.

Hmm, Crazy Harry would be one of the Weasley twins, or Peeves the poltergeist, I'd say. But Scooter would be a good fit, and so would Robin.

Wow, 4358 posts!

Yeah I can see either Scooter or Kermit being Harry. Or Scooter could be Neville (in a good way, he's a great character!)

Lol, yeah ninjas is a good word for it!

Interesting...Ok this is a clip from the Diana Ross episode of The Muppet Show. I've watched this a few times and I'm pretty sure I get what's going on. While Diana singing, all the Muppets come out to the stage. She calls them all by name, but then she sees Scooter and pauses like she can't remember his name. Instead she says hi to Gonzo. Then she smiles at Scooter and says, "Hey you!"

Then during the song she takes Scooter's hand and yells "Scooter!" because she finally remembered his name. It looks like she then mouths "That's it!"

Lol, clearly she wasn't a big Muppet Show viewer. Still, it's such a sweet moment, I think I can let it go.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure what she's saying there, I have tried watching a few times (probably too much lol). But glad you liked the clip!
