The dark day of Valentines Day is upon us...

Sorry, but while the emphasis on romantic love can be incredibly annoying, I do not let it ruin my St. Valentine's Day. I'd like to see it as an opportunity to be nice to anybody.

Btw, here's the History Channel's explanation of the origin of St. Valentine's Day. If it's true, sounds pretty honorable to me.

Maybe I'm in the minority here and maybe I'm kinda weird, haha, but I've always liked Valentine's Day. I always thought it was such a fun and sweet day, and I've always looked forward to when I could spend it with someone that I really love.

I love Valentines day analway have. You find out that people who you thought really didn't like you or we're your friends were thinking about you and really do care about you. So it's always bed knid of like a shock to me.

See, that's another thing about Valentine's Day...have you guys noticed that about half of this holiday (like Christmas, Halloween and Thanksgiving) is pushing people to eat more?

Think about it, people stuff themselves at Halloween with leftover candy, and Thanksgiving and Christmas even more with huge dinners. Then, when New Year's comes, people promise themselves "I'll lose weight!"

And then, Valentine's Day comes along with bucketloads of chocolate, along with specials at restaurants for couples. Eat more! Eat more! Soon afterwards, they go to the doctor for a check-up and this happens!

Holidays are fun, sure, but with every one that passes, I am reminded of an Atari game I had as a kid called "Fast Food". Between each level, a message popped up for the player. I think of this message every time a holiday passes...and Valentine's Day is rapidly becoming no exception!

Wow this thread is back!! This is my third Valentine's Day at MC...and I'm still single! Joy!

Personally, I don't mind Valentine's Day, boyfriend or no. I'm single, and I'm quite content that way.

But almost every year this happens to me: I'd make or buy valentines for somebody or some people, but when the day finally comes, I'd forget to bring them!

And just to bring up a subject, my older sister said to me once recently that Valentine's Day is a time when kids can feel completely rejected--in this case, she talks about the elementary students who were required to make bags or boxes for valentines, but then receive nothing! (I think something like this happened to me once.)

But anyway, I have no particular comment to say about the holiday. It's just... there to me, and thus I feel no particular reason to react to being dateless or whatnot.
