It's always funny how this thread was stared years ago, and how it ALWAYS gets renewed every year.
I don't think I have posted, if so, I don't remember... but here's my opinion.
I hate Valentines day on 2 different levels:
1, the level that I'll be this dude who will never find true love (and I have low standars, you know) or even a quickie.
and more significantly, 2, It just stands as a symbol of how much of a joke romance has become. I mean, you think Christmas is commercial?!?! Not only is Valentines a commercial day, but it cheapened romance ever since. It's not that I'm Bitter, which I am, but it just furthers the practice of buying love (not literally, but you see my point). I mean, Boxes of candy and plush bears are one thing, but the darn jewlery. The commercials brainwashing women into thinking they need that cheap trash! Oy gavolt.
It's as Chris Rock said in his sitcom :If you're a woman on Valentines day, you can show up at a guy's door empty handed. But you can't show up empty handed at a woman's house if your a man.
Don't get me started about the other aspects of romance being mixed with lust. I don't even want to go there.
But I'm glad when Valentines is over... obviously the half priced candy. I got a box of Madagascar vaelentines yesterday SPECIFICALLY since it came with a free poster. I figure buck fifty for the poster, you get the valentines free.
But the stuff that's left over is usually worth a laugh. I've seen cased of Larry the Cableguy cheap Elmer's candy boxes on clearance (don't know what's less appitizing... the crappiness of the candy itself, or Larry's ugly mug on a cupid body on the cover.)
