It says that a demon's 21st birthday marks when their powers are fully developed. Certain powerful demons have to go through a period before their birthday as the body tries to decide if it wants to be consumed by the demon's natural negative emotions and be evil, if not already, r stay good.
During this time, demons are extremely emotional and have rapid mood swings between negative emotions. If left uncontrolled, it is easy for the negative emotions to overpower even the strongest wills and corrupt them. Non-human blood drinkers start to crave human blood and eventually become immune to any negative effects caused by it normally.
Pentagram amulets are known to keep their mood swings and violence to a minimum and 99 percent of the time, stay good, provided that they don't take it off during this period.
Appearance is p-p-permanently changed....to have black hair to mark their maturity...

That would explain why you were back to normal after you came in contact with the necklace... and why bad future you became the evil...
But if it says "period", then it means it will stop sooner or later, maybe on your birthday. Perhaps it will be over soon and you'll stay good when this period's over.
