but its like as long as they have their netflix, smart phones, endless texting, facebook, twitter, youtube, xbla, and reality shows they don't notice...that is until their dollar is rendered worthless.

It seems like the president is actually getting angry about the power plays by both sides on the debt ceiling, though... I just want him to grow 'em and finally do the right thing instead of the thing the right wants.

Moderator Kev speaking: Can someone tell me the worth of keeping this mostly negative thread open on Muppet Central? Give me 3 good reasons why it should remain open -- convincing reasons -- and I'll leave it open.

I'm on the edge of closing it. I have read the pages, seen the "reported posts" and more...it's mostly negative. I've seen folks share honest opinions and others share it in nondiplomatic ways.

This is also one of those threads that I just don't feel fits the needs of what the Muppet Fan Community comes here for.

I give up too. Everyone's angry at the wrong people, and there's absolutely no use complaining since unless someone can exploit someone' opinion, it goes unasnwered anyway.

Good riddens.

If ever any Muppet Central member is angry at any other Muppet Central member, they are angry at the wrong people. There should NEVER be a feeling like that at MC. Ever.

Muppet Central? No one's really having much problems with each other here. it's the entire country that's angry at each other. My point is, there' just so much misplaced anger in everything as we are a deeply polarized country. And NO ONE can resist getting sucked into it. It's like quicksand. The more you struggle to resist the faster and stronger you get sucked in.

Religion and politics have a disgustingly close relationship in this country, so there's no surprise that a religious topic turns into a political one... especially when so many politicians use religion as an excuse to do very unChristian things.

The left hates the right, the right hates the left... and that leads to displaced anger at Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Atheists alike. We're all hot tempered because everyone has the answers but no solutions. And again, we take that out on religion.

We have a sharp divide that will take generations to fix. We'll never see calmness again in our life times... and we ALL want the same thing. We just can't agree on how to get it, even though, frankly, EVERYONE is wrong.

This thread tries to bridge both groups through understanding.

I'd like this thread remain open because there are purely Christian threads on Muppet Central that are never reported or threatened with closure, yet there are none for gay folk like me and some other silent people around that need to feel supported. There are so many gay folk who are bullied at school or at their jobs and they still feel the need to be in the closet here and I'm more than happy to wave my hand every once in a while to show them that I'm here and I care and that being gay can be one facet of a very rich life. It's been rocky at times and gone off on tangents, but for the most part it's been pretty good. Let's face it, the Muppets have a lot of Christian fans, a lot of gay fans and some who are both. It's kinda like Dolly Parton.

The thread has had some rocky times but we have had discussions about how to deal with it better and I think we have made real progress. Which is great, it shows that people can eventually get along despite differences of opinion, which is actually very appropriate for the Muppets.

As far as whether it fits what Muppet fans come here for, I think many people come to Internet forums like this when they feel like they have no place else to go and no one who will understand them. Bullying is a very serious issue right now and if Muppet Central can help in that area, then the thread is very crucial. So for that reason especially I think the thread has a place and should stay.

I'm a little concerned that mods always want to take a swipe at this thread. Those who don't want to play along can simply not participate, right? I mean, no one has a gun to their head. MC isn't filled with just five-year-0lds. Some of us LIKE discussions that go beyond "how did you like her dress?" and "so-and-so passed away".

I don't care what kind of pressure the mods are getting (and considering how often this thread is pegged for deletion, I have to assume that's what is going on). We're members too. If someone think gay marriage is icky and doesn't belong on a Muppet forum, remind them this is a site that has aliens with chickens, pigs with bulls, pigs with frogs, whatever Animal's parents were, etc, and move on with your day. If they want to remain sheltered, they should shelter themselves. While I'm not gay, it's rather offensive that this particular topic always seems to get stuck in people's craw. Gay people exist. A lot of gay people would like to get married. There are those who would dismiss this entire group just for the sake of ancient stories where the details are mostly lost in historico-cultural fogs.

My three reasons:
1. There are enough shallow and meaningless topics to keep the casual users occupied.
2. No other topic seems to garner this much attention.
3. The Muppets pull together to overcome obstacles. This thread is in that spirit.

Well it might also just be a perception that we're arguing with each other, as opposed to debating. But I do think for the most part we've just been debating. Like you say, it's nice to have stimulating converstion on things that are important to us.

All very compelling reasons.
