Chapter 2: Under The Spell.
Sunshine streaked across the freshly-mowed lawn, as a new day dawned upon the Moppets' home town. The Moppets themselves were just waking up. Bo, still wearing his stripey pajamas, sat down at the breakfast table after fetching the nespaper.
Bo: "Thought this was what we got the dog for. Not that he isn't useful... Bitemarks in the funnies, slobber across the financial news, and last time he didn't even let me do the crosswords..."
Christy Moppet descended down the stairs, muttering to herself about the conversation she had with her son Vic's teacher last night.
Christy: "Honestly, I don't know how he keeps up in his classes... What with falling asleep all the time..."
Bo: "Good morning dear? Not that it's not a good morning... Um, toast?"
Christy sat down after serving herself some juice, and cereal for the twins who popped up at the table soon after. Viq tried to eat his cereal in peace, while Vibs kept changing it into dungbeetles.
A knock came at the front door, making Bo almost leap out of his seat and pajamas too.
Bo: Um, shall I get it? Not that you shouldn't get it if you want too..."
Christy nooded for him to get the door, her voice echoing at Vibs for using her magic against her poor twin brother.
Bo, opening the door to the Moppets' home: "Right then, what's this about?"
Psychic Police Officer #1: "Is this the home of one Bo Parker Moppet?"
Bo: "Well..."
Psychic Police #1: "Of course it is, I'm psychic. We have a warrant to search your home for any counterfeit penguins."
Psychic Police Officer #2: "Um, you're in the wrong story."
Psychic Police #1: "Am I? Well, yes. Of course I am. I knew that, I'm psychic! Oh, here's the mail. We caught a shifty-looking fellow rifling through it earlier. At least, we stopped him before he got that far, we're psychic you know."
Bo took the mail from the psychic police officer before they parted ways.
Bo: "That Jack must've trying to get his mail first... Wait a second, he doesn't get his mail here, does he?"
Inside the Moppets home, the head of the family sorted through the morning mail while Christy tended to the twins.
Bo: "Let's see... Bill, bill, bill... Who's this "Bill"? And why do we keep getting all his mail.
Hmmm... A Joan Dear letter. Dear what I wonder.
Oh, and a letter from Mr. Cole for Mother."
He handed the letter over to Christy, whose chocolate brown eyes grew wide with horror.
Christy: Beauregard Moppet! We have to get to the hospital quick, my brother's family's in trouble!"
They picked up their keys, called Nanny Mingostone, waited for her to arrive so she could look after Vibs and Viq, and then reved up the family car en route to the local hospital's emergency ward. Once inside the white-washed walls of the ward, Christy saw the Cole Triplets seated on a sofa quietly talking to themselves. Tabby dictated her latest story ideas to Ann who then wrote them down in her notebook, before handing it off to Kelly for added illustrations.
Christy: Hello girls."
Ann: "Aunt Christy!"
Kelly: "Is it really you?"
Tabby: "Oh hi Uncle Bo."
Christy: "Where's your father dears?"
The three girls all pointed at the door to the room slightly behind where they were seated. Adam came out, greeting his sister and her husband. Seeing as how they were siblings, not to mention head boy and girl off their magic class long ago, she knew him well enough to know something was wrong.
Adam: "Please step inside, I don't want the kittens to hear."
Christy and Bo stepped into the hospital room, where Isabelle lay on the bed before them. The first thing they noticed was a weary look upon the human face of Adam's catwoman wife.
Christy: "Hello Isabelle, are you all right?"
Isabelle: "Yes, but I feel just a little bit faint. The doctors are making sure I'm well hydrated, but I just feel..."
Mrs. Cole then fell asleep, tired by her short conversation.
Adam: "It's best to let her rest. Christy, while I figure out what's happening to her... Would you mind taking care of the girls?"
Bo: "They won't get along well with Ted... Not that they're not well-behaved..."
Christy, giving Bo a look: "Of course we'll look after them. We happen to have a nanny who's wonderful with our twins. She can easily handle those balls of energy out there."
Adam: "Good, let me get their things..."
Mr. Cole picked up a few loose trinkets, placing them in a bag and emerged from the room in a few minutes time.
Adam: "Girls..."
All three: "Yes Daddy."
Adam: "You'll be spending some time with your Aunt Christy and Uncle Bo. Now mind your manners, see that you play nice with Vibs and Viq, get to school on time, and take care of each other. I'm counting on you to be good girls."
The triplets purred softly assuring their father they would, before they all headed off to the Moppets household.
Adam stopped off at his home first, and then met up with Bo and Christy at their home for lunch. Bo struggled with the overnight bags, attempting not to trip on the trike Vibs had made Viq leave in the driveway. The family talked and ate their meal, before Adam had to leave to announce his brief departure at Magic School. Christy made her way up the stairs, needing some rest herself after a long day. Bo thought it was odd she hadn't come out of her room for so long though.
Bo, knocking at Christy's door: "Um, honey? No, not honey... Honey and tea, no... Um Mother, are you, well... Indisposed?"
Heavy snoring was the only thing heard from behind the door. Bo opened it slightly and found her fast asleep.
Bo: "Right, best not disturb her..." He lent down to give her a small kiss on the cheek, but stopped when he noticed her snoring heavily.
Bo: "Hmmm, wonder if she took any sleeping pills. No, none to speak of... Wonder if this has anything to do..."
He didn't suspect that what afflicted Isabelle, would now cast its evil upon the rest of the clan.
