Team America: World Police

I just went to a sneak preview of the movie Team America.
Thumbs way up.
This movie is not for the faint of heart or easily offended, but with everything the South Park boys touch it had a lot of heart and a message, even if it is presented in a very skewed manor. The puppets were fantastic looking and the movie is hilarious! It comes out next week, I hope most of my fellow puppeteers go out and support it, since we don't get too many non-Muppet puppet films on the big screen, just remember it's rarted R so leave the kiddies at home!

I'll second that. I also caught a sneak preview and loved it. The audience was cheering and applauding all through it. Great movie, but's definately not for the faint of heart or anyone easily offended.

I like South Park. But I don't know about this movie. I guess my problem with Team America is that I don't really view it as a puppet movie. I know that it is but what I mean is that Matt and Trey got the idea to make this movie after watching Thunderbirds. And it had to be made right away no matter what. The result was hiring in specialists who still could not realize half of their ideas. And the result of that was that half the script had to be rewritten on the spot. That can't be good.

I'm sure the movie is really funny and all that. But when I read all the information on it I can't help but feeling that it already was a failure from the get-go. I guess what I mean is that when a bunch of puppeteers would've come up with a movie like this then they would've already planned out most of the details upfront. This would result in alot of time and money saved. Perhaps they could've actually made the movie twice as good for half the money. But then again most puppeteers would never get the chance to do something like this, while Matt and Trey can (more or less) do anything they please. Although they do not know anything about puppetry at all.

I just think the movie is probably way overrated and not really worth it for me to go watch in the movie theatre. People talk of a returning interrest in puppetry. But the only reason (again) that this movie works is because Matt and Trey's names are connected to it and that it's very controversial. I still stick to my opinion that adult puppetry is often actually puppetry for immature adults. I'm still waiting for a serious adult puppet project without immature humor.

I've heard that they were having problems and couldn't do half the stuff they wanted, but i think the real strenght of matt and trey is working with limitations. When they are forced to invent and improvise with what they have they do good work, i think south park is a good example of that.

Maybe this is just my opinion, but I wish that they had done it alot more like the Thunder birds. I mean, I like the "old-school" feel of Thunderbirds.. and it just doesn't seem to be there with Team America.

Then again, this is coming from from the person who loves the *old* Disney movies.. you know, the ones where someone actually drew it cell by cell?

Technically the movie is really good. When you consider the on set problems and the fact they just finished it on Wednesday it's down right amazing.

Brilliant writers

Honestly, as much as i love puppetry, i'm dyin' to see this one for the plot and the words.

Through South Park i have become convinced that Trey and Matt are total genius' if they write all that stuff themselves. They mix comedy and serious situations with perfection. They present very very serious current matters and make a very serious message, but disguise it with so much outrageous comedy that half the audience is too busy laughing to really notice what is being said. Lately i've been reading a lot about Ancient Greek "Old Comedy",(i'm a theatre major) and these guys are a modern Aristophanes (that's a pretty big compliment).

Love 'em. CAN'T WAIT to see Team America.

I'm really looking forward to Team America. What I really hope is that there's something in it to offend everybody, like South Park. That's what keeps me on-board with their sense of humor. If it were one-sided, it would be really mean, but they take such care to make sure that everyone gets a little of the action...
