He was pretty unique. They all are, but I think Richard's characters on SS were the most "out there". None of them are necessarily what you'd call spotlight characters the way Big Bird, Bert, Grover and others were, but they added something wonderful to the mix to make it that much more complete. All of his characters were very flamboyant and oddball, for lack of better words. They weren't huge stars, but Gladys, Forgetful, Placido, Don Music...they were the oddball, exentrics that often added the weirdness and nonsense. Does that make any sense. Like if anyone on Sesame Street needed to check into a psychiatric ward, it would have most likely been one of his characters. If Big Bird, Oscar and Ernie were the steak dinner, Richard's characters would be the yummy plate of cake on the side.
I definitely agree with that. They were unique like he was. I think he must have put a lot of himself in his characters. I think the first thing I ever read about Richard was something Kevin Clash said in Sesame Street Unpaved, "Richard's characters were very loud and very direct and very specific."

I'm actually surprised that Forgetful Jones wasn't recast. David Rudman could do a good job with the character, after all, he has done half of the Two Headed Monster, Sully, and Sonny Friendly, plus he's now doing Scooter and Janice on the new Muppet movie and other Muppet projects. Now, since Camille Bonara hasn't been with Sesame Street for the last 15 years (and she was the last one who performed Clementine), I think if they brought back Clementine, I think either Stephanie D'Abruzzo or Leslie Carrara-Rudolph could do it.
