Greetings from Kentucky!
Sorry it's taken me so long for an update but it hasn't always been easy finding time to sit down at the computer and write. Travelling so much, we don't always stay in one place for more than one night so we can't settle into a hotel room as much and take everything out of our bags.
Anyway...so far the tour has been great and aside from some great runs of our show, we've been able to do a little sightseeing as well. We flew out out to Milwaukee, WI, on March 5th to some mighty cold weather. It was quite a shock going from such nice warm weather in California to that, but we got all bundled in our warmies and were okay.
Our first three stops were Platteville, Wisconsin; Macomb, Illinois; and Rolla, Missouri. I must say that the midwest is quite an interesting place with some interesting and nice people. It is an easy-going world. Some of you Sesame Street folks might be interested to know about Platteville's pride in being the home to the world's largest letter M. It is a letter M made of limestone in the side of a mountain and is central to the tri-state area. We climbed to the top and took plenty of pictures of the beautiful snow-covered countryside. It was beautiful. You also can't go to Wisconsin without trying their cheese, so we had their famous cheese curds. It was interesting. Not as cheesy tasting as regular cheese...if that makes ANY sense.
In Missouri, we took a tour of the Merimac Caverns. They are these beautiful caves with stalagtites, stalagmites, underground rivers and waterfalls. It was awesome! I felt like I was in Fraggle Rock and I picked up a stone which I swear could be a Fraggle pebble. Maybe at Christmas I will "pass it on" to someone.
We didn't do a whole lot in Illinois but drive around Macomb. Not a very large or interesting city. Pretty dull really (no offense to those who live there). I didn't find Oceanview, IL., but I hear there really IS a resteraunt called Friendly's and I'm hoping we stop at one and not the Don't Drop Inn.
Today we started our long 900 mile drive to Maryland but since it is such a long drive, we are stopping on the way twice. Tonight we're in Louisville, KY. It's funny how the state of Kentucky really is shaped like a drumstick! I hope I can get some really good southern home-style cookin' on this trip! Here in Louisville is where the big Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory is. I'm hoping we can swing by it tomorrow before continuing our drive. The architecture here is gorgeous and it's actually the first really city we've been to. Up until now, all we've seen is farmland.
Well, that's not much, but it's all I got so far. I miss you all so much and I hope you're well.
