I am under the impression the "pilot" they are referring to is the debut episode(the one where Gordon opens up the show with that little girl introducing her to Sesame Street). But I guess we'll find out soon enough.

That is my question as well. I'd love to see EITHER, but whatever. This is still amazing to have as a box set. I had a feeling that we'd get something like that, a few eps, a few skits. I'm guessing, like my idea, it's the defining episodes of each year. Now, I don't think Kermit will be too much of a problem. I still think Disney, Henson and SW should have made some agreement with Kermit. A fair usage clause. Something where SW owns his SS appearances, Henson owns old Henson skits and the right to use the character as a logo, and profiteering from TMS and movies is Disney.

It's cartoon character and songs that I'm more worried about.

I wonderif the various bonus clips included will be grouped together in some sort of categorized format. The press release mentioned "Celebrity appearances that parents will remember", "Songs that parents will remember", and "Animations that parents will remember". If they are categorized like this, then here is what I'd like to see (and I'll include a few more for some of the categories):

Celebrity Appearances parents will Remember
1. James Earl Jones - counting to 10
2. Johnny Cash - Nasty Dan
3. Jesse Jackson - ??? (Is this the same perosn as Rev. Jesse jackson, who recited the poem "I Am Somebody", which is featured in the book Sesame Street Unpaved?)
4. Jackie Rogers - ???

Songs Parents will Remember
5. Rubber Duckie
6. C is For Cookie
7. I Love Trash
8. Mad
9. Count it Higher
10. Everyone Likes Ice Cream

Cartoons Parents will Remember
11. Pinball Number Count: 4
12. The King of 8
13. The Alligator King
14. The Ladybug Picnic
15. Eleven Cheer
16. Jasper and Julius: Julius loses his elbows
17. T is for Television
18. The Jazzy Spies: 5

Ernie and Bert Moments that Parents will Remember
19. Ernie makes a clay sculpture of Bert
20. Ernie puts the radio knob on Bert
21. Ernie and Bert divide jellybeans
22. Ernie eats cookies in bed

The Count moments parents will remember
23. The Count counts cookies while Cookie Monster eats them
24. The Count hires Ernie to answer his telephone

Cookie Monster moments parents will remember
25. The Ballad of Casey McPhee
26. Kermit's rectangle lecture
27. Beat the Time: Cookie Monster

Grover moments that parents will remember
28. Grover the plumber
29. Grover the waiter: Hamburger

Sesame Street News Flashes that parents will remember
30. Sesame Street News: Rupunzel
31. Sesame Street News: The Count counts the three little pigs
32. Sesame Street News: Alice in Wonderland

Game Shows that parents will remember
33. What's My Part?: Foot
34. The Mystery Mix-Up Game

I thought Henson didnt have any use to use Kermit as the Henson logo anymore?

Neither Henson or Sesame Street Workshop have any rights over Kermit the Frog anymore. Anything that has been released since Disney's take-over that includes Kermit but hasn't been released by Disney (ie Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas) has had the Kermit sections cut. I am pretty sure that as Disney now hold the rights to Kermit and his image, they also own any previous Kermit footage that Henson Associates once owned.

The Jim Henson Company does still own the Kermit statue that is located at the Henson studio that was once the Charlie Chaplin Studio, but does not own Kermit. Henson owns the rights to some productions that Kermit appeared in, but not the character itself. Though Kermit appeared in some of the logos, they have been replaced with the Jim Henson Television logo (this change was made before the sale of the Muppets). I don't know if the Jim Henson Pictures logo has been edited or replaced in Buddy and Elmo in Grouchland.

Sesame Workshop does have Disney's permission to use old Kermit skits, but would probably have to pay more to use Kermit in new episodes or skits (assuming that Disney would be willing to let Kermit appear in new Sesame Street footage). Sesame Workshop did give Disney permission to include the Sesame Street Muppets in its Muppet Show and Muppet movie DVD releases. I don't think Sesame Workshop is allowed to include Kermit on any Sesame Street DVD covers or use Kermit as a selling point for any Sesame Street merchandise (I am not sure if this effects the chances of releasing The Best of Kermit on Sesame Street on DVD). I don't think Sesame Workshop can put Kermit on the back photos (of course, between the time that Henson sold the Sesame Street Muppets and the time that Henson sold the Muppets, Kermit did appear on the back cover of the DVD release of Follow That Bird, and a small picture of Kermit was included on the side of the Songs from the Street box set).

I wonder if Sesame Workshop is allowed to include images of Kermit on the DVD menu art, or if SW is alllowed to show clips with Kermit in the "sample other Sesame Street DVDs" section of the DVDs (I have not seen any Kermit clips in any of these samples).

I really hope you're right. Kermit was a pretty major part of Sesame Street in the early years and not including some of the News Flash sketches and the original performance of "Bein' Green" would make the set a bit dissappointing.
Just out of interest, any idea why Kermit was edited out of the latest release of Emmett Otter?

I have read that Hit!, the company that released Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas on DVD, is one of Disney's rivals. I've read that Sesame Workshop isn't a rival, because SW is a non-profit organization. Of course, I know that Hit! released Dog City on DVD in the UK with Rowlf's scenes intact, and I've read some info about the Jerry Juhl tribute that was included in the Fraggle Rock season two DVD set, which mentioned that The Muppets Holding Company provided some clips. Weird that they would provide clips, but not allow Kermit to be seen in something that he appeared in before the sale of the Muppets.

I also think it's weird that Disney allowed for the Muppets to appear on Saturdya Night Live in 2004. SNL is owned by NBC, a rival network to ABC, which is owned by Disney. Unless Henson already made a deal prior to the Disney sale, since I know that Disney didn't cancle any of the deals that Henson made for the Muppets before buying the Muppets.

I also find it weird that Disney allowed for Kermit and Miss Piggy to appear in the TV Land awards, since TV Land is a rival cable channel to The Disney Channel and ABC Family, and is owned by Viacom, one of Disney's rivals.

I just hope that Kermit gets included on the upcomming set.

I wish the heads of these companies could get together and realise that they can all profit if they give the consumer what they want instead of hacking up these pieces of art.
