I'm pretty sure that a while ago, a French company used a crudely made Kermit replica in an advertisement for a fast food restaurant because the Jim Henson Company wouldn't loan them just the Kermit puppet without an official Henson puppeteer.

Yes that is correct, that company I believe was McDonalds who wanted to use Kermit to promote the new Muppet Show 25th Anniversry Characters which they were giving out in their happy meals.

Thanks for the confirmation. Did you get to see the ad they made? There was a link to it on the old Henson forum at the time but they removed the video before I managed to see it. Apparently, the puppet and the performance were a disgrace.

cut open a toy and used it as a puppet or they used a toy puppet. Either way, they thought to use it in a commercial, now imagine a replica puppet.

Fact is it just makes sense not to make replica puppets because you lose control over theu se of the character.

Thing is, as it's been said before, you can buy very realistic (if not expensive) Muppet replica puppets on eBay now. I'm kinda undecided about the whole issue. I know that I would LOVE an official Muppet puppet tho!

Yeah but that doesn't mean Disney has to supply the puppets. I'm not saying I wouldn't love a replica puppet, I'm just syaing there is a reason these aren't puppets.

There have been pretty good Muppet puppets in the past as well as nice plush toys but this Kermit replica is the very first original looking Muppet for mass sale. Maybe Disney want to see how these poser replicas sell first before thinking about anything else. I can't imagine that Disney would pass up the idea of releasing Muppets puppets if they could make a lot of money from it.
