To me, the Muppets have been all about the suspension of disbelief. I know they're puppets, you know they're puppets... but when you see them performed... even in person with the Puppeteer staring right at you... they take on a life of their own and become REAL.
I agree!

By the way...

Does anyone think its possible that next year we will finally see that Muppets Halloween special?

After all, by November/October 2011 they should theoretically be done with principal photography on the movie, and having a Halloween special air in October 2011 would be a great way to give the Muppets exposure since the movie is scheduled to be released two months later.

Who's Walter? I don't think i know who he is? I've looked through the pics but the only one i could think of to be Walter is that Whatnot Muppet. And he didn't look like a character that i know of.

That would be Walter. He's a new character being debuted for this movie.

For the thousandth time, I'm not being negative, I'm trying to be realistic.

In all seriousness, the idea of the difference between "negative" and "realistic" intrigued me, so I looked them up;

Negative: the 6th meaning is
"lacking in constructiveness, helpfulness, optimism, cooperativeness, or the like: a man of negative viewpoint." (Most closely related to this situation)

Realistic: The 1st meaning is: "interested in, concerned with, or based on what is real or practical: a realistic estimate of costs; a realistic planner."
(Most closely related to this situation)

As Drtooth noted, it would be costly and stupid to pull the plug on the movie at this point. The time for it to realistically be shelved came and went. The chances are now very slim to none that the film will be shelved. So, its really not very realistic or practical to think that there is any possibility of the film getting axed now.

I'm sorry to say, but technically speaking you are being negative to think that there is a possibility of the film getting shelved at this point. :embarrassed:

I'm not trying to be rude or step on anyone's toes. I just wanted to tackle this from a definition perspective.

YAAAAY! I'm taking my little brother to see it just the two of us. He'll be six and a half then so he's like the perfect age! That's when I really hit the Muppet age. The movie I saw was Muppets in Space. I hope I can make this one as cool for him as my mom made Muppets in Space for me.
Heck yeah. I remember being 6 too when I had my first Muppet theatrical experience(Muppets Take Manhattan), though according to my folks I had been a huge Muppet/Sesame/Henson nut since before I could talk!

I see what the problem is, and I would even try to look at it with a negative eye... but consider this.

The time for Disney to put the project in mothballs without losing a substantial amount of money has long passed. That was during the script writing phase... maybe initial locational scouting. Now, yes, there are horror stories of films being shot down out of production while they're being filmed, but those are pretty extreme cases. Disney is a well run entertainment company, and I feel they're smart enough to not screw up the movie in any aspect. There is the worry that they'd treat the movie like it didn't exist once it's filmed and hide the release date and fail to promote it, sure... but that would be completely Weinstine... err... stupid of them to do so. They've sunk a LOT of money into purchasing the property... they've actually done a pretty good job marketing them so far. Nothing they're doing since that shaky first year (and since everything depended on OZ, no wonder it was so shaky) says we have no plans to make this movie.

Pulling the plug now would be costly and stupid. Too many big big names have signed on to not raise a fuss or some eye brows if something were to go down on Disney's part. Plus, Jason IS a pretty big name in the industry now... HE came to them with the project and all. If they want him to do the voice of a hip hop dog in a few years, they better had keep him happy and get this project.

There's too much money to be made NOT to try to release a film. Sure, if something were to go down, and the movie weren't successful THEN is the time to worry about the future of the franchise... as for now, I agree... nothing short of WW3 will shut this movie down. And if North Korea screws anything up with the world until then, i'll personally go over their and strangle Eel-man myself.
Isn't it funny how a lot of us ol' vets on MC have gone from Disney haters to being in love with the company? I never woulda imagined in 2001, heck 2004 that we'd be where we are now. I thought the Muppets were just going to be shelved. And yeah, that whole Oz period pretty much made me wonder if ANYthing was going to happen with our gang.

Btw, I had to lol at your North Korean comment. It reminds me on the forums how 9/11 happened and Muppetfest looked like it was going to be cancelled(it was just postponned til a few months later) I was like "I dont care if bin laden is shooting missiles all over los angeles, nothing will stop me from being there!"
