Maybe it's got something to do with "The Wizard of Oz?"
Oh, well. Can't stand "Elmo's World" anyway, so I need the bracing of a good shot of Bailey's, personally...Over ice, with a bit of half-and-half...
As for the rumor regarding "Back to the Future" (okay, it was a LONG way back for some of you...), the lowdown at the official BTTF web site, www.bttf.com, states that this is, once again, a rumor about the hopes of a fourth movie that was started in Great Britian. (I think Luke may be behind this, but it's just MY opinion!)
As for more new movies that are coming out, you have all talked about "Cat in the Hat" which is arriving Nov. 21, but no one has really mentioned "Haunted Mansion," which is coming out about the same time (or a week later). What about the new Looney Tunes movie that's slated for November ("Looney Tunes - Back in Action")? Or the fact that there are going to be re-releases of movies like the 1979 "Alien" movie on October 31, or that "Stitch! The Movie" is coming in late August?
Let's talk remakes! We already know about "Down With Love" and how quickly it went down at the theaters (one weekend it did well, then plummeted - Are you listening, Rene?). I ranted about "Cheaper by the Dozen" being remade, then found out that they are going to do a "new" version of "The Black Stallion" called "The Young Black Stallion." What? This is better?
And yes, there is a new "Peter Pan" movie being made...it will come out around Christmas.
But this one is a kicker. I think many of the people on here who are older will understand my gagging about this remake (no offense, but this is really for viewers of classic movies or who are John Wayne fans or even Western movie fans from the late-50s, early-60s).
Here it is: "The Alamo."
With Dennis Quaid as "Sam Houston" and (are you ready?) Billy Bob Thorton as "Davy Crockett."
Okay...Quaid is a fairly good actor. I enjoyed him in "Great Balls of Fire" and in the tear-jerker "Frequency," and I even found him to be somewhat humorous in the movie "Inner Space" with Martin Short (although Short was the movie).
But Billy Bob Thorton as "Davy Crockett?" The "King of the wild frontier?" The ex-politician, frontiersman, winner of the love of his fellow countrymen Davy Crockett? Come ON, Ron Howard! Please don't do this to the millions of fans of Fess Parker, John Wayne or (was it Arthur?) Hunnicut who played Crocket over the years. They still believe...Thorton, in my opinion, won't work...
AND this is a DISNEY production!
By the way...the original cast of the 1959 "The Alamo" is as follows:
John Wayne .... Col. Davy Crockett
Richard Widmark .... Jim Bowie
Laurence Harvey .... Col. William Travis
Frankie Avalon .... Smitty
Patrick Wayne .... Capt. James Butler Bonham
Linda Cristal .... Graciela Carmela Maria 'Flaca' de Lopez y Vejar
Joan O'Brien (I) .... Mrs. Sue Dickinson
Chill Wills .... Beekeeper
Joseph Calleia .... Juan Seguin
Ken Curtis (I) .... Capt. Almeron Dickinson
Carlos Arruza .... Lt. Reyes
Jester Hairston .... Jethro
Veda Ann Borg .... Blind Nell Robertson
John Dierkes .... Jocko Robertson
Denver Pyle .... Thimblerig (the Gambler)
