Oh, but, sadly they do.

Do you realise how many parents introduce their kids to Disney stuff using these cheapquels? ALL the libraries stock up on these things. Sadly, I think we are in the minority on this one. They sell well, unfortunately. And, it's also teaching adults that cartoons and such are only for young children. It's also suggesting that young children aren't as inteligent as they are.

That's the same way I feel about people who are introduced to the Muppets by MFS or MTI. It's not like they are cheapquel status, but they are nowhere near the level of TMM and GMC classics. And, of course, there is the Muppet Babies cartoon that still defines who the Muppets are in some peoples' minds. Ugh. They are so much more than that. :grouchy:

...I've read a few articles about it, and it sounds pretty darn good, actually. This will be the first time (I think), they've actually had a BOY (not an adult woman, not an adult man) play Peter Pan. Novel idea, eh?

And "Hook" shouldn't count for anything. I was fine until the Lost Boys were skate punks and had the Technicolor Food Fight. There are some great visuals in that, but IMO they missed the point of the original book. Plus, "Hook" was over ten years ago, and there's a whole new crop of pups that deserve a better Peter Pan story than what's out right now.

I have semi-high hopes for the new "Peter Pan."

And, BTW, Melissa and I loved "Finding Nemo." Not that that's any surprise, cause we're huge PIXAR fans. But I thought it was weird/funny that I cried twice in the movie, becuase evidently having a baby has made me INTO a baby. I guess the separation issues with Marlin and Nemo were too intense for Quinn and Miles.

...I think the biggest problem I have with the Disney Cheapquels is that the "creative minds" at Disney can't come up with anything new to explore. The existing classic fairy tales and other stories behind the "classics" didn't have sequels; people simply told other stories with other characters. There are so many traditions to cull folktales from, and they're spending a ridiculous amount of money on schmoo like "Hunchback 2." For the love.

I wouldn't necessarily put ANY of the Muppet productions on the same level as the Cheapquels, even though I agree that MFS in particular seems like it had the budget of my high school musical.

My point about the films was not that they are the quality of cheapquels. I made very certain to be very clear in stating that in my last post; "It's not like they are cheapquel status."

My point was that I feel the same way about kids being introduced to the Muppets by the post-Jim projects as Scooter feels about being introduced to Disney with the cheapquels.

The Muppet Babies, however, come close to being cheapquel quality in my opinion. I've always felt that way. Even though I enjoyed the first season or so, I often found it a guilty pleasure. It was cute, but I just can't get over the crude quality of the animation and the squeaky voices. The Muppets deserve the best.

I accept your point.

I also know there are people on this board who feel that if you weren't introduced to the Muppets via The Muppet Show, you've been cheated. And there are people who think if you haven't seen X or were introduced to them through X, then you 've been cheated.

Personally, if you can wade through all the "lesser" Henson projects and discover the true beauty of the Muppets that isn't necessarily contained in any one work but is an amalgam of all the good feelings we all have for them at some level because of (and despite) all we've seen, then you're good enough for me. Because every one of what I consider "lesser" projects will have their devotees, and I'm sure there are a lot of people here who don't like The Great Muppet Caper. And Muppet Babies.
