so Im kind of a movie buff...

Just a few of many, I love the movies...

- Im looking forward to Angel and Demons next year, I thought this was a way better book than the DaVinci Code. We know Tom Hanks returns as Robert Langdon, but he question is, who plays Victoria Vetra? Thats going to be one of the most saught after roles this year in Hollywood.

- Ive been waiting on info regarding Orson Scott Cards Enders Game and finally, just a few days ago, the film moved into Pre-Production status. This space epic is one of the best novels Ive come across in some time, and is decorated with all kinds of awards. The Neverending Story, Poseidon and Troy director Wolfgang Peterson is set to direct.

- Way of in the distance here... JJ Abrahms has secured the rights to Stephen Kings Opus and masterpiece The Dark Tower, the film is expected in 2010. The series spans 7 books, the first started when King was in College, he just finished the last a few years ago. I can guarrantee this will be one of the most anticipated movies ever. They have just announced as well that Terry Brooks fantasy saga The Sword of Shannarra is going to be made into a feature film for 2010 aswell.

Oh...*headslap* It's actually "I am Legend". But the poster says "The last man alive...blah, etc." You can see how I got confused?
Yeah. I dunno about this one. I Am Legend is one of my favorite books, and Richard Matheson is one of my favorite writers. There have already been two adaptations of the novel, and neither one got it right, although both films are pretty entertaining.

The Last Man on Earth (1964) starring Vincent Price is probably closest to the novel, since Matheson wrote the screenplay. However, the film somehow ended up being shot in Italy with Italian actors (their voices were dubbed into English later), and Matheson was so dissatisfied with the final product, he removed his name from the credits, and the name "Logan Swanson" was put in its stead.

The Omega Man (1971) is Chuck Heston at his sci-fi best (see Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green). This time, Matheson's vampires are mutant creatures, survivors of a plague, clad in black hooded robes, their eyes covered with dark shades. Amusing is a scene in which conservative, former president of the NRA Heston goes to an empty movie theater and watches Woodstock, quoting dialogue verbatum. The Omega Man was spoofed on one of The Simpsons Halloween shows as The Homega Man. Of course, Homer actually likes being the last man on earth (until the mutants show up). One scene parodies Heston watching Woodstock, only Homer watches the Chris Farley/David Spade epic, Tommy Boy.

Actually, besides J.J. Abrams' "involvement" in The Dark Tower, nothing is known, not even if it's a TV show/mini-series or a movie... or even if he's directing. His name is just attached.

I really love J.J. Abrams' style. His new movie looks fantastic! Still don't know the title though, but I'm sure it'll be awesome. I hadn't heard about his attachment to the Dark Tower films. There will be more than one I presume, right? Maybe not a movie for each book, but at least a trilogy or more, unless they go the way of a mini-series on TV. Very excited to see that either way, cuz he's such a fanboy that he'll no doubt stay very true to the books.

Oh yeah, I Am Legend, really can't wait for that one too! Transformers was awesome, but it's always cool when you start it off with some great trailers.

Nobody knows ANYTHING about that movie. I love it.

Also, Abrams didn't direct it but it is kind of his baby. I know the real director did some episodes of Felicity.

Oh, I see now. It kind of like the tag line for the movies. But yeah, it does look original and really good! Says on Wikipedia that it's actually closer to the 1971 movie, "The Omega Man." then the actually book.

I wouldn't doubt it.

The novel is about the last man on earth, holed up in his home all night, while the vampires try to coax him out. By day, he travels throughout the empty town, going from house to house, destroying the sleeping creatures. He's not an action hero or a superman. He's an average, middle-aged, middle-class survivor of a worldwide plague who finds himself in an extraordinary circumstance.

It probably wouldn't make such an "exciting" movie had the filmmakers gone this route, so as in The Omega Man, they turned a horror/suspense novel into more of an action film.

Wonder how the filmmakers will work the title into the film. In the novel, Robert Neville is perceived as the monster, the destroyer, who exterminates the creatures of the night with wooden stakes or by dragging their sleeping bodies out into the sunlight. He is the last of his kind: "I am legend."

This film has been on and off for years. At one point, it was to have starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I'm curious to check out Rob Zombie's take on Halloween, which opens August 31.

The guy is a real genre buff, not just for current horror movies, but also for the classics of the 1930s and 1940s.

The remake/re-imagining/homage stars Malcolm McDowall, Tyler Mane (as Michael Myers) and Danielle Harris (who was in Halloween 4)

Zombie has filled Halloween with familiar genre faces. Included in supporting roles are:

Sid Haig
Brad Dourif
Udo Kier
William Forsythe
Danny Trejo
Tom Towles
Clint Howard
Bill Moseley
Dee Wallace-Stone
Sheri Moon Zombie

Cast in the leads are:

Scout Taylor-Compton (as Laurie Strode, originally played by Jamie Lee Curtis)
Danielle Harris (from Halloween 4 & 5)
Malcolm McDowell (as Dr. Sam Loomis, originally played by Donald Pleasence)

And as a giant (6'10) adult Michael Myers, Tyler Mane, who is probably best known as wrestler Big Sky, and who played Sabretooth in X-Men)
